Can people from the UK not use the online invitation form from VFS ?
I am Danish, but when I go on holiday in Denmark with my (Thai) family, I get my parents to fill out an invitation form from VFS and attach it to the online visa application.
You will have to apply for a tourist visa from outside Thailand.
A tourist visa will give you permission to stay 60 days in the country, and can be extended with 30 days at the immigration in Thailand.
Use a search engine like hotels.com to lookup hotel prices. The prices wary a lot from a hostel to a 5 star resort, but there accommodation for all types of budget.
Food can be found in all price ranges as well, depending on you eat local or at a Michelin restaurant.
I have been down the sketchy visa road, and it is not enjoyable at all.
A few years ago I ran out of options and bought an EV. Especially during the start of Covid it was a bliss to have, and it gives me peace of mind whenever I go on holiday out of the country and have to reenter. 🙂
As Brandon has already told you, it will never be possible to bounce in and out for many years. On ED you are supposed to study, and it will quite hard to come up with a valid reason to the Immigration officers why you are leaving the country for months while you should be attending school. Work

/3 extra months, buy the EV and save the headache.
