What should I do to ensure entry back into Thailand after a series of visa runs before applying for the Elite Visa?

After being on ED visa for 3 years i went to Denmark on the 26th of June this year. Came back on VOA the 28th July, then extended for 30 days (to avoid 1 day overstay) and left for PH on the 28th of August. Came back on another VOA 4th of September, extended for 30 days and can now be in the kingdom until november 2nd.

I have a ticket to Denmark on 9th of december, and plan is to return in January on elite visa.

That means that i have to leave the country again, and tbh I am a bit scared that i wont be let in again.

What will be the best course of action for me?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has experienced multiple visa runs and is concerned about re-entry into Thailand. They are considering applying for the Thai Elite Visa but are apprehensive about being allowed back into the country after several extensions and re-entries. Suggestions from the community include applying for the Elite Visa while in Thailand to avoid border runs, ensuring not to overstay, and choosing safer land border crossings like those near Kanchanaburi or Mae Sai. They also discussed the possibility of providing proof of onward travel and funds to enhance their chances of entry.

Why dont you get the Thai Elite Visa now? You can get it when in country.

Why stress about all this border bounces.

Remember you are not allowed to work on Thai Elite.

Álvaro R. Royo I fully understand why they do not like people living here on tourist visas and extensions, but for long I have hoped that they would make up a new type of visa, for people like me.

That have not happened yet, and it might never happen, so my only option is the EV.

I hope I will be let in again, but if I for some reason will be denied, it is not the end of the world.

I will go back to my home country, spend xmas with family and friends. And return with my new EV in January.

thing is that they don't like the people living here under tourist visas or exemptions - but they like and push into the Elite Visa. It's not guaranteed that they let you in again, but at least I'd say you have a good card to play by showing them that you're on a new exemption only because your Elite is still processing.

that I will surely do 👍

So you payed the initial fee already right? In that case, maybe a good idea to print the receipt and show it in case they reject you in: "I'm waiting for the Elite Visa, I applied already but still not ready so I *needed* to do another bounce"

I think it is because of a more thorough background check. If that is true or not, I do not know. But that was the reply I got when I asked.

I have started the process already, but as it take up to 4 months, it wont be ready in time.

I will never work or have a business in Thailand.

A quick bonus question. Should I buy a ticket out of the country, within the 30 days to show, if asked ? As i will be staying more than the 30 days I will (hopefully) get on my return
Amornrat **********
depending of where you stay a quick border run by land is OK

Good advice, thank you.

I am looking at it, as we speak :)

Google Ban Phu Nam Ron Border Crossing, that will bring you straight to the border post. Arrive after 10:00am, after all the Laotian or Vietnamese visa van are gone. Behind Immigration is a huge parking lot, I think THB20.-, than there is a small hut where the guys take care you, they do all for THB960.-, they will organise also the van to bring you across and back. Jut check the stamp when you walk back

I'm guessing your entries thus far were by air as you were coming from Denmark and the Philippines. If you haven't used your two land visa exempt entries yet this year, that is a low risk option at the right border, such as Mae Sai or Nong Khai.

I will write the outcome when I am hopefully safe back again ;)

I have a car, so I will just take the trip myself or with gf as co pilot :)

Good luck and let us know how you get on. I think you'll be OK. If for some reason there was an issue, you can try the next Myanmar border up.

That border the actual border is some way from the Thai immigration post, down a dirt road in the middle of nowhere. So there is a taxi office beside immigration that handles the whole thing for you for a fixed fee, under 1,000B IIRC. That covers taking you over to Myanmar, paying Myanmar immigration for the stamps, and taking you back.

Getting to the Thai border office it's easier if you have your own transport, at least from Kanchanaburi. There is a bus there from Kanchanaburi but I don't know about back (I ended up hitching).

If you have your own transport you could just do the whole thing direct from Hua Hin.

Kanchanaburi is pleasant for a visit too if you haven't been there before.

I have all the time in the world, so i will give it a go Thursday / Friday this week.

I really appreciate your help.

Thank you.

Kanchanaburi (Ban Phu Nam Ron) is the nearest border to Hua Hin, ~250km. I'd try there and just do it well in advance so if there is a problem you have time to try something else.

I live in Hua Hin, but will go to whatever border that is the safest to cross.

If I understand correct, that would be a border to Myanmar right ?

Thank you very much for your advice!
Ivan ************
You should be able to cross and come straight back. It depends where you are in Thailand, if you are near Bangkok maybe try the border in Kanchanaburi. Mae Sai is near Chiang Mai. The borders with Myanmar they will not let you out unless they are going to let you back in, so there will be no indication of anything in your passport if they did refuse you, they will just say "no" leaving.

If you went there not on your last day that would leave you with backup options in the unlikely event they didn't let you.

Nong Khai is usually ok also and you can fly to Vientiane and come back by land, or fly domestic to Udon and bounce. In the unlikely event they refused you, you'd just be left in Laos and maybe reschedule your flight back to Denmark from KL or whatever.

I would not try to bounce by air, land is safer bet.

You are correct. The only land crossings that i have been doing, is when i got my ED.

Is there any of the 2 crossings that would make more sense to try?

If that is my best option i will try one of the 2. Get back to Thailand, and extend again before heading to Denmark.

Would I have a higher chance of getting in, if I stay more than a day, or can I just cross and head back again ? :)

and you're just NOW thinking about this? What do you intend to do between Nov 2 and Dec 9?

NO one can tell you if you'll get stamped in without a problem, if you'll get pulled aside and questioned, (asked to show proof of funds, onward travel, etc) OR if you'll get denied entry.

It's totally up to the immigration officer you're standing in front of when you try to stamp in on a 30 day visa exempt entry (You have NOT been getting in on a Visa On Arrival ;) )

Sorry for the wrong term :)

There was a plan, but unfortunately it got changed.

I can provide proof of funds, and can buy a ticket out of the country just for show. But I had hoped that maybe there was something extra i could do, to make things go more smooth. (choosing a specific airport or whatever ideas people would come up with)

If you want the EV don’t get an overstay stamp in your passport, if you do say goodbye to the EV

@Jeremy *******
yep...ANY overstay means NO ELITE VISA.

its one of the disqualifying criteria for the EV

I do not plan to overstay.

When I got extended in August it was for a single day.

The immigration officer said that it was not needed, and actually got angry at me, when I wanted the extention anyway.
