Hi, looking for advice on a possible plan I have

Myself and my wife are moving to Thailand in March for a few years, both over 50, British and no intention of working

We have the money to put the 800k each in bank accounts, I believe we need 2 separate accounts

Now when we arrive in March we will have about a week where we are setting before 2 weeks travel away for the area (long booked and can't really change)

The issue is opening bank accounts and getting the money in early enough, plan is to arrive on 90 day "Non O on basis of retirement )

As we will be hotels for the first 3 weeks this sounds a bit tight

We visit for a holiday, staying in a rented villa, in November for 15 nights

Would it be possible to get a 90 day Non O for that trip and sort our bank accounts out? we could then transfer the money with plenty of time to spare

Not sure if that would be an issue to get another 90 day non O 5 months later? Also I cant get the 800k each in you UK accounts until month end so they won;t have been there for the 3 months prior to applying in the UK, the will have been well over 65k thb a month deposited in each account for a long period though

If possible what paperwork do I need from accommodation and anything else to help with bank accounts or is it easier just to use an agent for the accounts? not sure what they currently charge for this

If we leave it all until we arrive in March I assume I can't do anything when we arrive in March and this would leave us with only 2 month to deposit and season the funs

Any advice/suggestions greatly appreciated, thanks

So i am seeing tons of people having problems with Bangkok bank for visa renewals and applications. If I were to open a, say krungthai, account. And transfer over my 400k for marriage. Then go to immigration next week. Got statements from Bangkok bank and krungthai. Does that work for my financial part. Or does it need to stay in one single account?

Hey everyone, I recently submitted my dtv and I just got approved about a week ago. Now I need to apply for my spouse. My question is, do I need to show that she has 500,000 baht in her bank account as well? If yes, can a joint account of 1m baht work?

Has anyone heard or DTV holders being interrogated upon re entry at Suvarnabhumi international airport, being asked to show 20k baht in cash, etc., or all smooth reentry stories? It will be my fourth entry on DTV and I know visa waiver folks are getting a lot of trouble with repeat entries - haven't heard stories like that of DTV holders yet, but wondering if anyone has. Thanks :)

Question for Australians who applied for 90 Day “retirement” visa in Australia.

The online application states - Retirement ( pensioner aged 50 or above with state pension who wishes to stay in Thailand for no longer than 90 Days)

I qualify as I am over 50 but I do not have access to state pension yet, however I do have the 800,000thb. Do you have to have the state pension to qualify for this visa when applying within Australia?

TIA

Asking for some help in how to apply with 2 sources of income from outside of Thailand. I work for a UK based company remotely - this is a zero hour/casual worker contract. However, I have worked for this company since 2023 and the work is ongoing. I can show this through payslips, teaching timetables, etc. I also work on an online teaching platform as a freelance teacher - I don't earn very much, but it shows I have worked with them for the past 2 years with a small top up income. As for savings, I have 20,000 pounds in a UK bank account, which has been there for around 2-3 month. I am a bit worried that my contract is zero hour and casual worker contract - do you think this will be an issue? For my freelance teaching work - does it matter that I don't earn very much from this? Any help would be great. Thanks.

Hey all thanks in advance for advice. This is a very nerve-racking week and need any final insights.

I had my EDU visa cancelled for June 15th and the same day I plan to fly to Taiwan or Philippines.

My plan is to apply for Workation DTV visa.

I have been teaching online for 6 years now but will get my father’s (same last name) 6 months bank statements which show a couple million baht + a sponsor letter + a signed photocopy of his passport.

I will make a professional portfolio as a freelancer and bank statements + income proof for the last 6 months.

Of course there a few other required documents like copies of my own passport etc which I’ll get

But basically is there any extra advice or suggestions on Taiwan vs Philippines?

Also e-visa vs walk-in?

I will also dress quite well and look professional.

Any more advice will be much appreciated!

This is quite stressful.

Thanks all!

FYI for anyone from Norway:

In one year, the Norwegian embassy will stop providing income verification letters. This article was posted on ASN:

"The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the phase-out plan in response to a parliamentary inquiry. Minister Espen Barth Eide confirmed the service cut, explaining that it is not a legally mandated duty. The embassy will discontinue the letters in a year, providing time for adaptation.

Thai immigration practices have shifted, previously accepting foreign embassy letters, now requiring verification through Thai bank accounts. Thai authorities favour either a balance of 800,000 THB or monthly deposits of at least 65,000 THB. Many countries, including the UK, USA, and Australia, have already stopped offering similar services.

The Norwegian Ministry advises citizens to consult the Thai Immigration Bureau and Thai Embassy websites for accurate guidance.

The decision aligns with a broader international trend. Norwegian retirees in Thailand must prepare for direct compliance with Thai financial requirements going forward.

The recent government white paper further clarifies these consular changes. It confirms Norway's alignment with other Western countries' consular practices in Thailand. This shift signifies a new norm for the verification of income for Thai visas."
