What are the financial requirements for a student visa application in Thailand from France, Laos, and Vietnam?

Hi.

I try to make a student visa for Thailand.

So I have all the paperwork from the school already but in my country (France) the Thai embassy ask me to show a statement with at least 10,000€ on it.

I would like to know if you have to show the same amount of money if I do my visa in Vietnam or Lao for example.

Thx 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the financial requirements for obtaining a Non-Immigrant ED visa (student visa) for Thailand. The original poster, a French national, is currently in France and has been asked by the Thai embassy for a bank statement showing €10,000 to apply for the visa. The conversation reveals varying financial requirements among different Thai consulates, mentioning that the consulate in Vientiane, Laos, may require a minimum of 20,000 THB without stringent financial proof, while the Thai embassy in Vietnam does not specify financial requirements on their website. Suggestions are made for the poster to consider different consulates, emphasizing that the Thai consulate in Paris may have stricter regulations.

okay
@Phis****
, unfortunately the thai consulate in Paris is perhaps the WORST thai consulate in all of the EU to apply for an ED visa at especially if he's enrolled in a private language school. The requirements are way out of wack.

In fact I don't know anyone who has ever gotten an ED visa successfully from that consulate :O

I agree with the other posters, either have him get a single entry tourist visa from the thai consulate there OR fly here on a 30 day visa exempt entry. Get new documents from the school and go to a thai consulate in the immediate area (Lao, Malaysia, Myanmar, Vietnam) to get the ED visa from there.

Good Luck (y)

How many months were you in Thailand in 2019?

Are you now in France?

Hopefully we have been able to assist the OP and her French boyfriend.

I would suggest he get a Tourist Visa from Thai Embassy in Paris.

Come to Thailand and look at the Thai Language Schools which he would want to attend. They will need to prepare documents for him to take to a Thai Consulate ...example Vientiane... To obtain his Ed Visa.

The school will recommend where he should go to get the Ed Visa.

€10,000 is around €1000 a month for the time to live on an ED visa. If you cannot show €10,000 how do you intend to be able tp afford live here?

When I studied Thai I got grants/loans from my government for the time I was studying, just saying, there are ways to get money without working while studying here, how depends on your nationality/government policies.

Just to answer the question: The requirement in the Thai Consulate in Vientiane is a minimum of 20.000 Thb on a bank account.

But he has been in Thailand before though. And it's not his first time in Thailand. So I'm not sure what type of rules may apply to him.

How long ago did he get those tourist visas? And is that the only time he was in Thailand?

According to:

"ED Visa application, at the moment, first timers, can still apply in Vientiane/Laos, keep in mind in addition to your documents from school they will also ask Bank Statements"

Another question. I just checked your profile, and it looks like you're Thai. If you're looking to get a French Education visa (so you, a Thai person, can study in France), you'll have to go to the French consulate and inquire with them.

10,000€ for an ED visa?! Just checked, it's true :O

But, can you get it in Laos? I don't know. Got a couple of questions:

1. What's your nationality (i.e. the country's name on your passport - thanks James for clearing that up)?

2. What is your visa entry history?

3. What type of school are you trying to attend?

4. What consulate does your school want you to use?
