Just a heads up to perhaps something to look forward to. Canadian friends went to the Thai Consulate in Montreal and got their usual 6 month multi entry visa. Were asked to "informally" provide bank statement showing 25,000 CAD. They have known the consular officer for many yrs and were warned that this would become the norm in the future.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Recent reports indicate that Canadian applicants for the Thai 6-month Multiple Entry Visa (METV) may now be asked to provide a bank statement showing a balance of 25,000 CAD. However, this amount appears to differ by consulate, with some stating the common requirement is 200,000 Baht (approximately 7,000 USD). Discussions among expats suggest a need for clarification regarding these financial requirements.

And I am still of the mind that some one somewhere got their wires crossed.

BUT

I just emailed the consulate in Montreal to ask them the financial requirements for a 6 month METV.

Thanx for the update (y)

The actual amount for a 6 month METV varies consulate by consulate but is usually 7K US dollars

This is off the the thai consulate Vancouver website for the proof of funds for a 6 month METV

A copy of a bank statement showing a balance of the amount equal to no less than 200,000 (Baht) per person
