I know there are two options for retirement, 800k or 65k coming in monthly for 12 months. The marriage visa only requires 400k yearly but is it still 65k using the monthly system or a lesser amount?

TLDR : Answer Summary
In Thailand, the marriage visa requires a minimum annual income of 400,000 baht, which can also be validated through monthly income. While the formal monthly income requirement is 40,000 baht, this can become complicated depending on whether the funds are earned within Thailand or transferred from abroad. Some immigration offices may require a legal work permit with the corresponding minimum salary to meet monthly income criteria, especially for first-year extensions. Therefore, maintaining a bank deposit of 400,000 baht and showing evidence of monthly transfers can be crucial for visa applications.

Your best bet is to put the
*****
0 in a separate bank account for the immigration and just forget about it and use it every year to show them. Make sure that your account is easily accessible to keep the immigration happy

I've used the 400k for the past two years and I bring over more than 40k a month using wise for living cost and my sons education. I'll still have the 400k this time around but will also bring evidence of monthly transfers over the 40k and see what immigration say

As i guess your from UK, you have to use the banked method for your visa application and first 1 year extension, but even before you get your first extension start banking the monthly amount. You have to maintain the initial banking deposit for 3 months, but you can spend the monthly ones. That way you fulfil the first extension requirements of 5 months deposit , and the second extension can be done on 12 monthly deposits by time of application. Obviously as Jan said easier if you have been working here.

thats what i said, by banked i was infering either the 400k/800k depending on which visa route he took. But yes only the retirement requires it maintained post visa issue.

The UK embassy don’t offer affidavit, and if he still just want to use funds based on married to a Thai, the only requirement is 400K baht seasoned for two months prior to your yearly extension. The funds are free to use again after the extension is issued. (Unlike the regular retirement).

Formally it’s 40 K baht a month, but unless you earn the money in Thailand monthly transfers might work and it might not. More and more offices are saying if you don't legally work in thailand and make the minimum 40K baht a month salary to meet the monthly income requirements based on marriage extension you cannot use monthly incoming transfers from overseas of 40K baht a month for the previous 12 months. It's just a crap shoot on whether your immigration office will or won't allow it, and they wouldn't allow it on the first yearly extension off a 90 day Non-O because you wouldn't have a year's worth of 40K baht a month transfers <- meaning you either legally work here with a work permit and the appropriate minimum salary, your embassy still issues the income affidavit OR you bank the funds.
