I've been told Thai immigration are going to at some point not accept retirement visa agents getting visa extensions with retirees who don't have 800k in their accounts?
I've been told they're going to stop this but think it's just fear mongering.
Anyone hear anything about this?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post raises concerns about a potential change in Thai immigration policy regarding retirement visas, specifically whether retirees will no longer be able to extend their visas through agents if they do not maintain 800,000 THB in their bank accounts. Users express skepticism, calling it fear mongering, but also share anecdotal evidence of banks tightening their policies and mention the requirement of showing bank statements for visa extensions. The discussion indicates uncertainty and concern among expats about the future of visa regulations.

Realistically, how would a foreigner surviving in Thailand without that requirement amount? Sadly; the funds can withdraw thereafter. I am a Thai person, I will not and unwilling to live there with that amount, even though I have my houses fully paid for.
Thai government need to do better on weeding out disqualified foreigners/applicants .
This comment will not sits well with many, I’ll wait and see the deteriorating comments directed at me . Here we go 3 2 1…..
I would worry about the corruption at the highest levels of government before I would worry about foreign people living and actually spending money in Thailand. 🤷♂️
I agree with you. People who are stretched and play around trying to meet the 800k or 65k a month by playing games really should not have residence visas.
They can’t afford it and they risk become a burden on local society
many of us are well funded because we invest well. Why have 800k in a low interest earning account when you can use that money to make a 💩 lot more in other investments?
your country will cry when all the retired expats move to Cambodia (oh that one must hurt right now), Vietnam, etc...
You might not want to see old foreigners spending their last days on Thailand, but the Thai economy has projections based on the assumption that these people will still come here.
Same like shooting in the foot over tourism.
You want only the top 10% rich retirees and tourists in your country? But you provide a 3rd world, very low budget, unprofessional and disorganized experience, full of cheap prostituses everywhere you go in public.
The latter will never appeal to the former. Never. It's a crazy pipe dream Thailand is fantasizing about.
Acting on it will only make things worse for Thailand.
If you offer trash, expect trash. Don't cry.
And 3, 2, 1... Am I blocked yet? (I know you won't want to hear this as a Thai, but it's the truth).
wow!! After reading a comment from Somebody who’s an expert and sooooo familiar with prostitutes I can only say wow!!! Thanks for sharing about that 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
How are you supposed to do first extension? You arrive with the 90 day one, by the time you open bank account and transfer the money you haven't got the 3 months they need
3 months before subsequent extensions is NOT part of the official police order, which means that your Immigration has pulled something out of their noses on their own. But this is Thailand- it happens
you're right it's not, but it is what it is. You could argue with them and piss them off or just comply with what is written in the handout they provide
is this Jomtien? They've been handing out that note that says it's required for years, but it's not actually required. Many just ignore it without any repercussions. And I assure you those using an agent at that office, or any others, don't have to return to show anything.
I did not use agent. At the moment I am not willing to take a chance as everything with government and banking sector is unpredictable at the moment. Not much involved in presenting bank book even though the 40thb parking opposite JI is a bit of a rip off.
I have had to show that I had 800,000 baht in my bank account 3 months after receiving my retirement extension. I have had to do this for the last 4 years. I go to PathumThani Immigration office
I’ve been doing this for eight years and nothing has changed. I keep my 800,000 in the bank, bring my statements and bank book, and get my visa stamp 20 minutes later. I just did this last week and no problem in Nakhon Ratchasima. When the banks and immigration no longer accept the agents, fake accounts, a lot of folks will be scrambling and complaining about it. The new government has pledged to crack down on all corruption!! Haha 😆
yeah but that will not vanish. Immigration is not going to stop accepting tea money. Many head-of-Immigration posts have to be bought and paid for only because they are making a two million figure yearly amount in bribes
On extension I provided bank letter and 12 months statement. I never have been requested to bring bank book to Immigration in 3 months time after extension. Is this something new?
nothing new. This rule has been existing since 2019. However if you used an agent to front the funds, your Immigration will ignoere this rule. If you used own funds, they want you to show them your bank book 3 months later
but the rules were always clear, of course I am aware what illegally happened. It is absolutely clear and logic that the government wants to make sure that the farangs have enough money here to cover their expenses themself. Thats a good systems and it makes sure that only people stay here that can afford it. The same applies when Thais want to come to Europe, they also need to proove that they have enough money
I agree but the problem is the strict protocol of where that money is. I have a million dollar property that nets me good rent plus have substantial other investments I make good money on. I don't want to put 40kaus into a low interest account in Thailand and have more than enough funds coming in. That's the floor of the protocol so the agent deal works great for me
some utterly bizzare responses on here. I’m pretty sure Connor was referring to using the 65K a month method which negates the need for 800K locked in an account
if agency's are breaking the law they would not exist they use a loop hole. Been here since 2003 and living very comfortable off the returns of my 800.000 invested else where.
