What proof of finances is required for a Non-Immigrant O Visa application in Thailand?

Greetings 🙏🏻

I’m in the process of completing 90 day Non Imm O Visa (for visiting family) application on Thai visa website and in the long list of required documents it has:

Provide proof of finances with bank statements

AND

Provide bank statements showing proof of 10,000GBP in the account

Firstly, what proof of finance do I need to show? Is there a magical number?

Secondly, why are they asking me to show £10,000?

Thank you as always for any help 😊

TLDR : Answer Summary
The application for a Non-Immigrant O Visa for visiting family in Thailand requires proof of finances, specifically bank statements showing a balance of £10,000. This amount corresponds to the financial proof necessary for the visa, as it likely translates from the 400,000 baht requirement in Thailand, ensuring compliance with varying exchange rates. Applicants may also need to clarify their visa type and requirements, considering that the 90-day visa allows for visits that can be followed by an extension based on marriage or family ties.

There is some confusion on your part. The visiting family designation is only a 60 day extension, and can not be extended. The 90 days only refers to marriage, retirement, dependent, or guardian visa. Visiting family is only 60 days. What is your relation justifying visiting family? If you are visiting your wife, or your half child, then you are confused as the finances you list refer to the actual first steps of marriage visa, as does the 90 days.

respectfully, you’re the one who seems to be confused.

The 90 day non O visa for visiting family does not have to be followed up by an application for extension of stay inside of Thailand based upon marriage or having a “half child” whatever that means. They do not have to be linked.

It is a standalone visa that allows a foreigner to visit a family member for up to 90 days.

So then you are confused, as the finances refer to the application of a standalone 90 day visa that CAN be extended on the basis of marriage INSIDE Thailand, if I wish to do so, through a separate application at immigration with more stringent financial requirements and I believe a full photoshoot of you and your family in and around your home 😅

Please refrain from telling people they’re confused unless you know what you’re talking about.

I believe he is only using it as a single entry visa and not applying for the year extension. Your post is confusing and I'm not quite sure what point you're trying to make.

90 day visa to visit wife or child/family + 60 day extension which is what had said before. Visiting family is 90 days initially not 60 days. The 60 days is the extension part after the initial 90 days. Then if you want to you can apply for a yearly extension at immigration or you can go to a Thai consulate outside Thailand twice a year and skip the bs.

This information I recieved directly from the Thai embassy in London.

If its single entry eg 90 days which is what you're talking about you need to show £1000 for 1 month (multiple entry 1 year is 10k for 3 months). On the items they ask you for something that's applicable for the multi entry like the 10k just upload a page stating "NOT NEEDED or NOT APPLICABLE" as it won't let you continue unless you upload something.

As mentioned by someone else the evisa site caters for many different types of non o. If you need further clarification you can email them directly at

but this information I gave above was from an email they sent me because I needed exact details for a non o parent of Thai child but the single entry 90 day visa financials are as above.

AMAZING!! Thank you so much for taking the time to help mate. I thought that would be the case because of the different O visas, but like you say, I couldn’t continue without uploading something! Wonderful news - thanks again 🙏🏻

no worries matey, have a good trip. Don't forget you can also extend for 60 days of you need it.

Also if you're going over there for more time in the future and you can't be bothered with immigration you can get a non o single from Savannakhet for visiting family and a year for marriage. This with the 60 day extension gives 5 months per entry so no hassle to do that twice a year and no bs plus unlimited times.

Yes thats what the UK Thai Embassy require to issue a Non-o based on marriage, visiting family and retirement , £10k in your UK bank account for the last 3 months , upload your bank statements for the last 3 months.

seems like it’s going to have to be that way 👍🏻

They're asking to show £10k instead of the 400k bht you need in a Thai account.

Use same statement for both.

Think I’m correct - seems that some of the retirement O visas need £10-20k and they use the same portal - I panicked worrying about how I was going to tell the Mrs I’m not coming 🤣

🤔 Unless that landing page caters for all O visas and I should just upload what is applicable. I love applying for Thai visas 🤣 Thanks anyway mate 👍🏻

The requirement for a marriage visa or extension in Thailand is 400,000 baht. With fluctuations in exchange rate they probably just picked 10,000 to make sure it always met that.

But also they can set whatever rules they want.

it’s an non immigrant O visa 90 day.

there's many reasons for a non-O. Some of them requiring double what you're being asked to show. But regardless each embassy gets to make their own rules.
