I'm from South Africa, I am in Thailand with my family (husband and son) , They are both South African too. When we were in South Africa, I went to the Thai embassy and they advised a Non Immigrant B Visa for myself and O Visa for my Husband and son.They also advised that I need 40 000 baht for my whole family in my bank account. Since I arrived here the school said to me the amount is not 40 000 it is 500 000! How can this be , it seems almost very impossible that someone applying for a teachers job, to make money, will have that in the account in their account. Plus the documents fro, the athai Embassy in South Africa states 40 000 , so how can it change in Thailand . Please help

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarification on the bank account balance needed for her family to obtain Non Immigrant B and Non-O visas in Thailand. Initially advised a required amount of 40,000 baht from the Thai embassy in South Africa, she encountered conflicting information stating a requirement of 500,000 baht from the school in Thailand. Community responses indicate varying requirements depending on visa types and circumstances, suggesting confusion around documentation and actual financial needs for visa applications.

I think this has run it's course. :/ The O/P certainly knows what her steps are in this process.

Don't need money in your bank account to get a work permit.

500 000 is for the elite visa. I think.

I am Sout African , been here almost 5y. Working visa.

Aah. The foreign child. I didn't take that into account. Could be , yes.

I believe they were told the financial requirements for getting an extension of stay based on raising a foreign child in thailand which is 500K baht in the bank.

I think if you are taking documentation from your school to get a 90 day Non-B visa, you will be able to get a Non-O visa for your husband at the same time with the marriage certificate based on he is the spouse of someone who will work here. depending on how old your child is I'd say see if you can get a Non-O if it's very small, or if it's going to be attending school here get a Non-ED visa

Oh wow, I got a marriage certificate. Cool . So mu next question is, do you know what the place is called in Penang where I need to get visa.
Tod *********
You are getting one of the visas based on being employed with the documentation from your school, and the other visa for your husband based on him being married to a person employed in thailand. I don't think you need any money in the bank for them but you certainly will need the marriage certificate.

Thanks , do you know how much money I need in my bank account for these visas?

@Lain ******
then take your documentation from the school to penang and get a 90 day non-B visa for you and a 90 day Non-O for your husband. Then once you come back you can work on getting them extended inside the country.

Is there anywhere online telling me how much I need in bank account for this visa

@Lain ******
Personally I'd just let the baby overstay and not get any visa for them. Kids under 15 can't be charged for overstay and kids under 18 can't be banned for overstay

Exactly as I said, but it still does not solve my problem. I am flying to Malaysia with my family and want to make sure I have everything in order, so I need to know bank account amount. Thanks for your quick reply Tod :-)

there is a big difference between what a thai consulate wants as far as documentation to sell you a visa and what is required inside of thailand to get an extension of stay on a visa.

if you are getting a visa extension based on raising a foreign child here in thailand the financial amount is 500K baht banked in an account.

Once you get your Non-B, work permit and then get your extension of stay, your husband can apply for a Non-O and a matching extension because he is the spouse of someone legally working here as can your child
Tod *********
So did you get those visas issued before you came here?
Tod *********
@Genene ********
that is somewhat correct.

You only need 400K if you are a foreign guy and apply for a Non-O based on marriage to a thai national.

A spouse of a foreigner legally working here can get a Non-O with no financials & if a foreigner is raising a foreign child here they need 500K baht to get a Non-O based on that.

You need 400 000b in account for a month when applying for non 0.

We will fly in 😬 This is incredibly comforting to know thanks
Tod *********
there are no financial requirements for those visas. If you're comin' back into the country by land they could ask you to show 20K baht per person on the Non-B and the Non-O visa.

@La**
, go to penang and get your Non-B and the Non-O for your husband, then once you come back you can work on getting extensions.
