Hi guys. I'm looking to come to Thailand in about 4 or 5 months on a 6-month METV.

At that point I will be able to show financial statements with a very healthy balance, but I will not be able to show 6 months of statements with a minimum of £5k which I think is one of the requirements for this visa.

Does anyone have any suggestions about what i can do to get around this problem? Cheers.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on obtaining a 6-month Multi-Entry Tourist Visa (METV) for Thailand but is concerned about meeting the financial requirement of £5,000 over six months. Responses suggest that if the financial criteria cannot be met, alternatives like a Single Entry Tourist Visa (SETV) may be easier to obtain. It is also advised to verify requirements with the Thai embassy, as there may not be a stipulation for maintaining funds for six months.

Okay, you need to apply for a 6 month METV <- multi-entry tourist visa from the thai consulate in the country you live in. Most all have the financial requirements so if you can't meet it you can't get an METV

As far as a SETV <- single entry tourist visa, you can get one of those easily. You need to remember that the visa is VALID for 90 days <-meaning you have that long to enter thailand, but when you stamp into the country on a tourist visa you get stamped in for 60 days. You can extend that by 30 days at the immigration office for 1900baht. Then if you want to stay longer you would need to go to a thai consulate in a neighboring country and get a new single entry tourist visa.

Check with the Thai embassy of the country you are in. The requirements are very clearly described. I know of no requirement to have funds in anywhere for 6 months.

@St***
thanks mate, but no good for me. I emigrated last year and the credit card company withdrew the card.

If you have a credit card then the available credit can also be used as part of your funds. At least in Melbourne Australia the Thai consulate accepts credit card funds. Credit limit minus current balance is what they look for.

Mary Hanson wrong. My business remains the same as it is now, which I've been running for 10 years. It's not something new, just a different physical location. And NO, she hasn't claimed she does.

You need to go ask. The official requirement is £5,000/€6,000/$7,000 or whatever *for six months* but not all consulates actually require the six months, some will take a single statement showing a current balance of the required amount and don't need to go back. You will definitely need to show the money, but the six months may not be necessary. I believe the US consulates don't need six months at all and I have seen reports of the UK and other EU consulates issuing the METV with only one bank statement as well, they have discretion on this and it's not consistently enforced. So I would not rule it out just because it says six months on the website. Thai consulate websites frequently list things as requirements they don't actually ask for. Phone them and describe your situation, they may say one statement showing current balance is enough.

Nick Bigbear Reiniger seriously you are thinking of setting up a company in Thailand? ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND! The bars are full of broke farang "business" owners. Its like the old joke. Want to make a small fortune in Thailand? Start with a large one. It's a hard slog even for Thais. And NO your Thai girlfriend doesn't know all the rules or have the right "connections"

Nick Bigbear Reiniger all that needs to be satisfied is that you have enough money for the duration of your stay for 3,6 or 12 months.... Can't have you earning money while you travel through Thailand as that would require another visa all together ... The only great advice will come from a Thai consulate as the rules can change regularly on visa requirements and different management processes may be in place in different countries that have thai consulates.... That said, If like my wife and I your in the UK the thai consulate in Hull is run by English staff and we have never had an issue over funds as they were satisfied during the form filling process that we did not intend to breach the specific visa we were on regardless of which visa we were applying for.

I can tell you, i'am from denmark, the last many many years, i got a SETV from Denmark, got a 30 days extension on the lokal immigration in Patong, have a fligth for a new SETV in Penang, and again 30 days extension,after a short flight to Singapore or Kuala lumpur and back the same the date,again 30 days and new extension on Patong immigration, so i can stay here for almost 7,5 month, and nobody ask for any money,just be aware the Immigration in Penang have chance to new bad rules,so if you want go a new SETV go to Kuala lumpur if need

@Flem****
thank you mate, definitely sounds like the best option. So I can 90 days on the first one and 60 days in the second one. Hopefully that's all I'll need to set up a business and get my staying and working visa.
Flemming ********
Yes, a SETV is the best option for you,its 60 days,after that a extension on a immigration for 30 days more (1900 bht,) and then make a cheap flight out of Thailand,and you wil get 30 days and again you make a extension for 30 days more

@Patr****
thanks...that's kind of what I expected to hear. I wanted the METV to give me time to set up a Thai company without needing to keep leaving and coming back. The only other alternative I can see is the Thai Elite visa which I don't really want to spend on.
Patricia **********
Nick bigbear Reiniger I can’t either so going for an SETV and then extension of 30 days

@Patr****
thanks...but whatever the amount is I'm screwed. I'm currently in overdraft until I pull out a large cash investment from elsewhere, I'll not be able to show any consistency at all.
Patricia **********
In Switzerland it’s CHF 7500.00 for 6 months before applying for the METV

I'm the bear 🐻. I only checked one website which gave the £5k requirement, I'll check the other as well, I didn't realise they could be different. Cheers.

Check the Thai embassy websites ....just a question... are you the bear or the girl?

Yep, I can fly from either Romania or the UK, so I double my chances of a solution maybe.
