TLDR : Answer Summary
The financial requirements for obtaining an ED Visa can vary depending on the location of the application. In Kuala Lumpur, there are no financial requirements needed to show when applying for an ED Visa. However, in Singapore, applicants need to demonstrate that they have at least 5,000 Singapore Dollars. It's important to note that while most Thai consulates do not require proof of funds, there are exceptions, such as those in South Korea and Singapore.

Where do you want to apply for this ED visa? In KL no financial requirements, in Singapore 5.000 Singapore Dollar.
unfortunately, you won't get a one year ED visa :/ because no thai consulate in the area issues one. :O
What you will get is a 90 day single entry ED visa; which means when you come into the country you will get stamped in for 90 days.
Then when that time is running out you will get paperwork from your school to go to the immigration office and apply for a 90 day extension.
You do that every 90 days for the whole year.

NEVER EVER go to Singapore for an ED visa. I've had Singaporean nationals denied ED visas from that consulate because they they issue them to people enrolled in real university courses NOT private schools.
