Hey everyone, I recently submitted my dtv and I just got approved about a week ago. Now I need to apply for my spouse. My question is, do I need to show that she has 500,000 baht in her bank account as well? If yes, can a joint account of 1m baht work?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster is seeking clarification on the financial requirements for applying for their spouse's visa after recently obtaining their own. The discussion highlights that while the main applicant typically must show 500,000 baht in their bank account, it is recommended that the spouse also demonstrates similar financial stability. A joint account may suffice, but some users suggest providing a sponsorship letter to clarify financial responsibility.

You could try writing a sponsorship letter saying you take full responsibility for your wife's expenses and provide your account again.

would probably not work since 500. 000 in this case are supposed to cover 2 persons and the requirement is 500.000 for 1 person - something could happen to both

its how they treat joint accounts in Thailand, certainly for visa and immigration purposes. Half the money belongs to one account owner and half belongs to the other account holder.

The requirements are the same for your spouse, she has the same risk of ex. needing hospitalization or other financial expenses as applicant 1, which are the reason for the 500.000 Baht deposit.

Required documents: Spouses need to provide a marriage certificate and proof of financial stability (500,000 THB or $16,000 USD).

Fees: Each dependent, including the spouse, will incur a separate visa fee.

Financial requirements: While the main applicant needs to demonstrate financial stability, it's generally recommended that the spouse also meets the financial requirements independently, with 500,000 THB or $16,000 USD

Just says recommended not required, but hopefully someone that has done this has a more forward answer. Good luck to you

that is wrong. A dependant of somebody who is on a DTV , does not need to prove own 500,000 THB

we had to! I have the DTV and my husband had to have his own 500,000. We applied in Vancouver and did our first extension in Krabi and he also wanted to see 2 x 500,000.

NEVER apply for the extension! Just do a border run

ah, you did an extension! That's a whole different story. If you just did a border run, nobody would have asked your dependent husband to show own 500,000 THB

extension worked better for us this time round and the money requirement is not an issue - so it was pretty straight forward. All things considered lol πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‚ Our Immigration officer would have also preferred for us to do a border run - but we managed to have a good time with it all anyways . But yes - from what I hear, many people have issues and border runs are suggested. We just seem to get lucky here with many things 😊
