I have a METV from UK, in May 2019 I am returning to UK for about 4 weeks to attend a wedding. I intend to apply once in UK for a Non-Imm Category O Visa based on being married to a Thai National (getting officially married in April 2019).

Question: A bit confused as to were my monies need to be located. To obtain a Non-Imm O Visa I believe I need B800,000 (£20,000) in a UK bank a/c for , but I have read that I also need B400,000 (£10,000) in a Thai bank (which I have) to apply for a Marriage Visa.

Sorry but its probably simple to understand, but thought it best to ask on here, as to me it isn't simple...😂

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarification on the financial requirements for obtaining a Non-Immigrant Category O Visa based on their marriage to a Thai National. They believe they need 800,000 THB in a UK bank account and 400,000 THB in a Thai bank account for the application. Comments suggest that proof of income can be shown through UK bank statements and that the requirements may vary depending on the consulate.

OR

You could do nothing and when you come back from the UK in May 2019 you could go to a thai consulate in a nearby country and get a Non-O visa with NO proof of funds at all, and then bank the money in a thai bank account so you could apply for an extension 90 days later.

I'd say given the requirements of getting a Non-O visa based on marriage from the thai consulate in the UK that it'd be easier to come back on a 30 day visa exempt entry or a 60 day tourist visa entry and then go to the thai consulate in Savannakhet Lao or Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam for the 90 day Non-O visa.

If you have the visa, came to Thailand and you want to stay longer than you can apply for an Extension of Stay at your local Immigration Office. One of the requirements there is to have the minimum 400.000 Thb on a Thai bank account 2 months prior the application date.

thank you, that makes sense. So if I go to UK, obtain my Non-Imm O Visa in the UK, I need monthly income of approx B800,000 in UK bank (or equivalent monthly income).

Then when I return to Thailand I can put this money in my Thai bank as I need B400,000 to obtain my extension of stay

You need to meet THESE requirments to get Non-O visa in the UK from the thai consulate in London based on marriage to a thai

For accompanying a Thai spouse : A copy of marriage certificate, a copy of Thai passport/a copy of Thai ID of spouse, and (3 months bank statement showing monthly income of more than £1,400.)

Ahh, I see what you mean, that puts the Brisbane consulate the same as the consulates in Savannakhet Lao and Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam. Neither of those require proof of funds to get the year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa based on marriage to a thai either ...

Thanx for that update (y)

cheers I get that. I used to have to show income/bank statements in Australia to get this type of visa also. Now no proof of funds required whatsoever. I couldn’t believe it at first, called the consulate in Brisbane and they confirmed it.

a person from the UK doesn't need to show the money in a thai bank account they can show the income going into a UK bank account..

well that sucks for UK residents then. Used to require proof of income in Australia. Now they don’t. You would think the requirements would be the same everywhere. Oh well.
