I'm off to Vietnam and possibly Malaysia for the next 2-3 months before planning to come back to Thailand. I'm sure I've seen recently that some SE Asian Thai consulates are now requiring six months bank statements to issue a tourist visa. Can anyone shed light on whether this is only for nationals of the country where the Thai consulate is based or for any nationality ie, British. Any recent info specifically on Hanoi or Penang would be very helpful cheers

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the financial requirements for obtaining a Thai tourist visa at consulates in Vietnam and Malaysia. Users highlight that some Thai consulates may require six months of bank statements, and the exact requirements can vary based on nationality and specific consulate policies. Recent comments indicate that the Thai embassy in Hanoi requested flights and a bank statement showing at least 20,000 baht for a 60-day holiday visa. The conversation emphasizes the importance of checking specific consulate requirements before applying.
as seasoned as you are with living in Thailand for several years using various visas, extensions and border runs... you know the gates are drawing closed for your continued entries.
The Thai embassy in Hanoi asked for flights in and out and bank statement of the last 3 months showing funds of 20,000 baht. That was for a 60 day holiday visa
Look at the Thai Consulate where you will be applying. Check their requirements. Meet them and possibly get your new visa.
What visa will you be applying for this time? Have you made application before in Vietnam or Malaysia?
If they request financials or show bank statements.... it applies to you.
Be aware that your visa history may be reviewed by the Thai Consulate in reviewing your request for a visa.
You may want to consider flying to Brisbane AU and apply for the METV. They do issue it to UK citizens among other Westerners.(Perth and Sydney do not).
