I have found lots of useful information on this site and want to pose my first question. I send money to a Thai bank account each month for rent etc and have used Western Union. This month there has been a significant delay in transfer so I have registered to a Wise account. I am sending from UK. Wise offer 2 options - sending via bank transfer or using a debit card. There seem to be pros and cons to both. Does anyone have experience or advice of which method to use?

Options and suggestions for moving baht from Bangkok Bank to a US bank (Schwab)?

BB says it will cost 1150 b to do a swift transfer, with exchange to USD. Not too much, rate seems standard, no charge from Schwab.

DeeMoney doesn't seem as good, but the rates may not be up-to-date.

Thanks

Best method dollars from USA to Thai bank in Baht.

I have free wire transfers and free ATM withdrawals from my Charles Schwab account. I did ATM withdrawals and Wise transfer to see best rate.

ATM 17,000 Baht cost me $485.02 ($491.30 - $6.28 ATM fee credit) 35.05 Baht per dollar.

Wise says 34.87, but because of the fees it was 34.49.

Even without the ATM fee being refunded it would have been 34.60 Baht per dollar.

This was just for me, but if it helps anyone else you are welcome.

Oh yea my 2021 Mazda CX-3 gets 30 mpg with 95 gas which cost me $3.90 per gallon.

Now onto more important business:

How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

Transferred some money using Revolut (US based account) to Bangkok Bank.

It was more of a test, I transferred 20,000 baht.

I received 19800 baht in Bangkok Bank. It took 2/3 days.

Exchange rate:$1 = 34.714

Intermediary bank fees: 200 baht

Revolut fee: $1.73

Does this sound good to everyone? Is wise better? Are there better options than this?

Has anyone worked out the cheapest way to transfer money from the UK to Thailand? Some say Wise, but that's 1% plus the ATM fee (and 1-2% Visa rate margin), or 2% bank to bank (in practise I'm charged 1.25% fee, but plus 1.5% or so on the rate). Some say Moneygram but their rate looks worse although I've not been able to register. Someone said normal bank Swift can be cheaper for large amounts. I haven't started to work that out bank by bank, but certainly in the past elsewhere Swift had been much more than Wise around the $10,000 mark and below. Bank of Bangkok also allow you to transfer by BACS to their London branch, although their rate probably has a margin added. Currently looking like Wise withdrawing as much as the ATM will allow. (Or bringing suitcases of cash for Superrich seems popular. They're margins are tiny but they charge 2.5% for cards.)

Could anyone tell me which transfer app gets you the best deal for your buck? Moneygram looks to be the better option, though would anyone happen to know if this is a guaranteed fixed rate or Will other fees apply besides the $.50 when transferring from online bank to direct bank?

TIA!

What are the criteria for the elite visa other than the fee and age restrictions? Cambodians ok? Minimum income required?
