I'm wondering if anyone has ever got, or knows anyone who has gotten the DTV from the New Zealand Thai Embassy? I can't imagine many did in the past because of its extortionate fee compared to everywhere else, but for a lot of us it's now the only option. It's a lot of money to lose if they reject it (approx 1,100 USD) so I'm kinda concerned what they are like to deal with or is the high fee a warning sign to not even try?
Answer summary
A number of expats have shared their experiences applying for the Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) from the New Zealand Thai Embassy, which is noted for its high application fee of roughly 1,100 USD (2000 NZD). While some applicants found the process relatively smooth, receiving their visas within a few days after submitting required documents, others expressed concerns over the fee and potential for denial. Utilizing an agency to streamline the process and ensure proper documentation was recommended by some, particularly for those worried about application rejections. Despite the costs, many seem willing to navigate the process due to a lack of alternative options.

It honestly probably would be but then you'd need a bunch of residency stuff for AU which would be a bit of a mission

I did - no issues. Its expensive. But im staying here in thailand offsetting that cost just by being here

I had a 6 figure rainy day / emergency fund sitting there for years. I used utility bills for proof of residence and documentation from my (ASB) bank

Yeah, totally agree re the cost, just more if you lose the 2k and still don't get the visa it's a bit galling. Can I ask what type of document you provided for proof of residence and how many months you needed the money in the bank? I know standard is 3 but it seems like nz wants 6

Luckily I've had mine a year or so now. It would be so ridiculous for me to go to NZ and apply being that I haven't been in the country for 20 years. TBH when my visa expires if more easy options aren't available I'll probably go elsewhere.

Participante anónimo 690 it's more likely to a request by NZ because they don't want people to move out of the country

1,100USD? Surely they are asking for NZD

They do, I was just stating a converted value because people don't know what the NZD rate is

@Mick ****
They stated that as an equivalent value for a global audience. The posted application fee is 2000 NZD though for a DTV.

UnforgettableRambutan8343 Apparently reduced to NZD$1,500 at the moment because of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between NZ and Thailand, until the end of the year.

Yes I got the DTV from the New Zealand Embassy a year ago but I used an agency and the agency was willing to refund part of the payment if they weren't successful.

The agency has a software to check all the boxes and make sure you have all the documents you need so if you're worried I'd suggest you go through something like that.

Oh also, did you have to provide 3 months proof of funds or 6? As I saw someone applied in NZ and had to show 6 months proof of funds

Anonymous participant prob safer to least have 6 months . I went through aus for it. There guideline was 3 months but when it was processing they requested 6 months bank statements. So guessing it's upto person on the case at the time

Surely it's a fixed fee with all thai embassies, or are you using a 3rd party

Each consular office sets their own fees and for some reason the Embassy in Wellington has their visa processing fees as some of if not the highest among global Thai consular offices.

Because it takes two seconds to search for anyone's name in a public group and I don't want to inadvertently give away something that would affect my application

nope every embassy can make their own fees. Crazy huh

The high fee in Wellington is based on embassy-specific currency conversions and local diplomatic fee scaling which is understandable given the NZD is weak. Also unlike many countries, there is no Consulate to support the Embassy for visa applications which makes Wellington a little busy. As the other poster says, Wellington is no better or worse than others but considering the fee make sure your appl is better than solid. Worst scenario, Ive heard of other kiwi passport holders applying in Canberra if it fails in NZ but now you need to be in Australia with an address to do so.

Thanks Graeme, yeah I mean I have no problem paying the fee itself, its pretty reasonable for a 5 year visa, but definitely a blow to get denied. Just seen a few stories from other embassies where they deny it with no explanation, but Ayesha's account is encouragin

Yes. I did. I can’t see why it would be considered any more difficult than another country. I emailed them with questions before I applied and they always got back to me. After I submitted they asked for a few clarifying things (like proof of accom, which I had booked a hotel for the first week), and then was given the visa around 3 days after that. V easy.
