I am wondering if anyone has had recent experience with a civil partnership / same-sex marriage registration process in Thailand? If so, I really would appreciate some help with the paperwork process/ requirements. i am a UK citizen, and I know I will need a Marital Status Affiramation, however, when i go to apply on the ukgov site for this, it still says that civil partnerships are not recognised in Thailand, so i have hit a wall before i even start .... any advice/expereince?
Have there been any same-sex couples with a Thai Marriage Certificate either from a District Office in Thailand or a Thai Embassy/Consulate successfully applied for and received a Non-O E–Visa based on Marriage to a Thai at either a Thai Embassy/Consulate or changed their Thai Visa in-country; or applied for an Extension of Stay based on Marriage to a Thai??
Also, how is the exception to financial requirements of a foreign wife married to a Thai husband being treated with same-sex couples??
In Thailand, a "trailing spouse" visa is now available for same-sex couples following the legalization of same-sex marriage, meaning that a non-Thai partner of a Thai citizen in a same-sex marriage can apply for a dependent visa to live in Thailand with their spouse.
If this is not an option, what other options does my wife have to stay while I work in Thailand?
Now that anyone can freely marry anyone regardless of gender, does this mean a foreigner can apply for an extension of stay via marriage to a Thai citizen of the same gender? And qualify for the lower amount to park in a Thai bank when getting a retirement extension? Is all the same paperwork required, e.g. a translated Affirmation of Marital Status / affidavit of freedom to marry?
Update: thanks for all the helpful replies. I'm definitely sticking with the LTR visa and the BOI confirmed my wife will qualify for a dependant's visa once same sex marriage takes effect. I'm no longer using that visa agent and found a list of accredited agents on the BOI website to choose from.
Hi all, I'm looking for a little clarification on something. I'm looking to move to Koh Samui next year.
My original visa plan was to get an LTR visa based on working for a large off shore company. I meet all the requirements and have been working on gathering all the paperwork. I have a wife, and I was hoping once same sex marriage passed she could get a dependant's visa under me.
I spoke to an agent, and she told me that the LTR is prohibitively hard to get and that even though in January same sex marriage will be law that it will not validate for dependant's visas.
She suggested I get a DTV workcation visa and my wife get a DTV soft powers visa. She said Thailand will ask for my employer's tax fillings for LTR, which isn't something I can get. I was under the impression I wouldn't need that since it's publicly traded. Without the option for a dependant's visa, I guess my wife's only real option is a DTV visa.
My questions are:
1. Does anyone have experience getting an LTR visa working for off shore company? If so, how was that process?
2. Is it true that even after same sex marriage passes, it won't count for visas?
3. Are there any DTV accredited culinary schools in Koh Samui?
I get that Facebook probably isn't the best place to get concrete info; however, I'm starting to doubt my agent. If anyone can suggest an agent in Koh Samui for a second opinion, that would also be great.
My life companion had DTV Visa, we are living together since 18 years ... In France, we call our union "PACS" . We have a child together... And the administration told us that they need weeding certificate ... The "PACS" union is not recognize ... Other people in this situation ... ? What can I do ?
I know there are several steps still left before becoming official, but any updates on visa requirements related to same-sex marriage with a Thai national?
I am asking for a Swiss friend, as he is not capable of proficient English to follow the conversation. He is in a same sex marriage, officially married in Switzerland. His partner wants to apply for the 365-days Non-Imm-O visa based on retirement (he is over 50 and fullfills the financial requirements). As soon as his partner will get the visa issued, he wants to apply for the "90-days Non-Imm-O as a dependant of a foreigner holding a longstay permit for Thailand".
So my question is:
Do Thai Embassy or/and the Thai Immigration allow the "dependant" (trailing spouse) method in a same sex marriage?
