I am wondering if anyone has had recent experience with a civil partnership / same-sex marriage registration process in Thailand? If so, I really would appreciate some help with the paperwork process/ requirements. i am a UK citizen, and I know I will need a Marital Status Affiramation, however, when i go to apply on the ukgov site for this, it still says that civil partnerships are not recognised in Thailand, so i have hit a wall before i even start .... any advice/expereince?

I recently went through the process and can advise. I converted my civil partnership to marriage a few years back.

First while in the UK you need to get your marriage cert apostilled and attested by the Thai embassy. Google is your friend here as there are many to choose from. At this point it might be a good idea to get the marriage cert translated too or you'll end up having to do that in Thailand which is what I did . I used Sawadee Translations who translated the cert and then met me at the Consulate of Foreign Affairs at Chaeng Wattana to submit the docs which were then ready to collect 3 days later. You could do this part yourself to save money.

I think you can apply online from the UK .. link provided above

this is to be used only with a Certificate of No Inpediment (CDI) whatever that is, so many different docs! :-(

that's a document that shows you are not already married. Go to your embassy in bangkok to ask for one

I applied in Thailand and if I recall correctly, that is why it took a while as once you apply for the affirmation to marry.the consulate then need to wait to see if there are any objections ..I think it was a wait of two weeks. If no objections are raised, then they issue you with the required docs for you to go ahead with the marriage.

Cert of no impediment is where ypur intention to marry is announced and shown that there are no objections raised by third parties as to why you can't marry.

I was in Thailand ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ญ when I got mine from the British Consulate there. It was such a long time ago but I recall it took about a month to get that affirmation. I am not sure if you'd be able to get the affirmation from here before you go?

ok, so i should be doing the process in thailand, not the uk ...thats better for me too. I hate dealing with govuk sites etc :-)

As far as I'm aware you have to be actually married, a civil partnership doesn't work for Thailand.
