As bob Dylan once said " the times they are a changing" two phone calls from Bangkok Bank today looking for Mr Tony, I'm clearly not Mr Tony then later on that day yet another phone call this time with the correct name. The reason for the phone calls, were to kindly ask me to attend the bank with my yellow book drivers licence and pink I'd card, to update my account details. This is surely a better approach than suspending accounts without any warning. Which begs the question, is a yellow book and I'd card the new rule of the week? It appears so.
Well just tried to open an account with Krungthai. Was originally told, by a higher up employee. Bring passport and thats it.
Show up. They now require a pink ID card and a yellow book that you are registered under. Haha what is happening with the banking system here. MIND YOU I already have a business account with them, that was opened in the same branch.
Do immigration still offer the "certificate of residence" I have to do my 5 year driving licence and in previous years used a combination of Yellow and Blue book. But in the new world if closer foreigner scrutiny I think they might want a certificate of residence. I'm in Prachinburi.
My wife, a Thai national, flew into Bangkok yesterday (July 1 2025). She called her City Council, Samut Prakan, today, about my "Yellow Book". The lady from the Council (she remembered her and my daughter when they got their "Blue Book" and invited her to come with me on Friday July 4th, directly, no waiting time.
Confusing it is, the officer said, it may take 2 months to get that document. I thought it is a half day (if that), I am the owner of that condo.
I did the border run two months ago... I had recently obtained the "yellow book" and "pink ID card"....I thought this established my residence... not so..... when I went to immigration a couple days ago to obtain the 30 day extension... I was told that I had needed to do the TM30 upon my return... 800 Baht fine... plus the 1900 Baht for the extension... at least I did get my extension ..
I went to Kalasin Immigration for an extension of stay due to retirement. I got there at the opening time of 08:30 and was first in line and out the door at 09:30. I am a Canadian so use a letter from my embassy as proof of income. I showed that my Passport with a copy of each used page, my yellow book and pink ID card and a copy of each. The officer then asked for a copy of my wife's ID card and Bluebook and I had them with me so showed them. I had the TM8 form filled out and a picture. And the reentry form for one entry and picture. That was it, previous years they had me sign a couple of other forms, but not this year. ฿1,900 for the extension and ฿1,000 for the single reentry. They also updated my 90 day reporting. A very simple process. my praise to the Kalasin Immigration department.
1) Would anyone who have a pink ID card can reply if both your thai name and English name can be shown together in the PINK ID card.
2) Anyone who can successful add both English and Thai names in the bank book?
3) Is there anyone who can successfully sold his/her condo? If yes, you receive money by cheque which wrote in your English name or Thai name. As a heard a case that the one who sold her condo, then buyer issued cheque in her Thai name same as title deed shown. However, she was unable to bank-in/credit this cheque as her bank account only shows English name.
