Has anyone managed to get a Pink ID card (not the blue one for Thais) while living in Thailand on a non-resident visa such as DTV?

I need one solely for some identity verification as my Thai driving lisences are no longer accepted like before. I understand this would have to be done through an agency if possible but atm I'm assuming it can't be done unless you have resident status? I also own a property here so not sure if that helps. Thanks. Expecting plenty of laughing emojis but I need to ask just incase 🙂.
Answer summary
The discussion focuses on whether expats can acquire a Pink ID card while on a non-resident DTV visa in Thailand. It seems that obtaining a Yellow House Book is a crucial first step, which sometimes requires a valid visa or residency status. However, experiences vary by location; some individuals have reported successfully receiving a Pink ID with a DTV visa if they meet certain requirements, like owning property. Different Amphur offices may have differing rules, and assistance from a Thai friend or spouse can be beneficial.

Every Amphur has its own rules. In my case it was all done in a few hours. Get the yellow book and then get the pink card. I went with my Thai wife who has a blue book which is a big advantage. This was just 2 years ago. But it will depend on the local official and what the local rules are.

I have a pink id card and yellow house book with just 12 month retirement visa. Took a few visits and the head of the villages recommendation but got there eventually. Good luck. Not easy to get nowadays. Mine was a few years ago. 😎🌞⚓

If you own a property, you should have a yellow house book. Part of the process for the yellow book, is registering you on the thai ID system. The yellow book is registered to your thai id number. The pink id card is usually issued with the yellow book, but if not, you can take the yellow book to the amphur and ask for a pink ID

On the back of the pink card it actually says that the card is not official identification, lol

Biggest hassle getting a yellow book is going to yr embassy, get certified copy of yr passport, off to Ministry of Foreign Affairs have certified passport copy translated to thai, lodge the paperwork then have it sent to yr home address.

I'm on a LTR visa. Got a yellow book (requirements were Thai translation of birth certificate and passport, and several trips to the District office). Once i was given the yellow book, they gave me the pink ID card. With that i was able to get a loan and buy a car in my name (30% down. Normally 25% down for foreigners, but since i'm over 60 had to put 30% down).

Related question: we own a condo in BKK, both foreigners, and we were given a blue book, not a yellow one. Does this matter? (Our condo was last sold so long ago it didn't have a blue book. You need the account number to report in to immigration.) Our building manager took us to the local office, they issued a blue book. Clearly they saw we are both foreigners, with foreign passports. No mention of yellow. Any idea? Thanks!

If you are in Pattaya they are very helpful just ask if it will be acceptable

But if you have to go to Banglamung like I did not so helpful

Go to your local Amphere with your yellow book and request a pink ID. In theory you shouldn't have any issues getting one but like everything in thailand it depends on not just the person you see but also the location you go to as to whether you will be able to actually get it.

I know a couple of people who managed to get one while on a VE, and i know 1 who couldn't get one on a VE and was told to go get a long term visa first.

You need a yellow tabian baan first and for that, you will need the support of the owner of where you are staying and, in my case, I also had to have the village head sign forms as well. It took me a month and multiple visits to the local district office. Once you get the yellow book, pink card is easy.

I got the yellow house book and they didn’t want it to get the I D card because they didn’t want to give me the pink ID with a Non-O marriage visa in my passport.

I needed the mayor (village head) to go to the office to persuade them to give it to me. No money exchanged hands. Without the mayor I would not have been successful.

Look Ma finally a correct answer. I concur with this and yes it matters not what Visa you are on it depends entirely on your living situation. Yellow book took a while. The lady that did my yellow book actually prepared all the paperwork for pink ID too. All I had to do was come back on a Thursday - Bang Lamung only do Pink card on a Thursday after 3PM.

A DTV visa is a tourist visa and not accepted for a Pink ID card application.

You need at least a Non-O visa/extension.

And the yellow house etc etc.
Darren ********************
Darren ********************
OP
Gerar Teuben Some here are saying I just need the yellow house book for the condo I own. Are you sure my DTV restricts me from getting the pink card?
Mick *****
Mick *****
Luck no. Official restriction no. Agents no. Yes having a long term visa is one path way of getting a yellow book it is not the one and only. if you are married to a Thai citizen and own free hold property you can apply without a long term visa. I am both married to a Thai citizen (12 years) and own free hold property. It was actually the lady at the Amphur that suggested we apply when we registered our marriage and got the Kor Ror 22. She did not seem to care about the visa at all, marriage was enough. A lot of people also believe there is also some regulation that you cannot open a bank account on a DTV. That is also not true under the right circumstances you can. There is nothing in law or regulation to say you can't although some banks do have a policy against it.

Darren 'Griff' Griffiths you need a yellow house book before a Pink Card will be considered. Both are issued at local Government level.

I cannot say about DTV, but is possible to get with the non-o visa. The documents are useful

Unfortunately, unlike the Thai blue id’s, the pink ones do not have electronic biometric chip.

Then your very lucky as it isn’t officially allowed on a DTV visa but as mentioned some officials are more relaxed then others which is nothing unusual in Thailand. 😂
Gerar ********

So far I know yes, as you need a Non-O visa to get the pink ID card officially.

Same as you can’t get a full Thai driving license on a DTV visa.

But I would go to the land office so see if you can get the Yellow housebook and after check at the local city hall if you qualify for the pink ID card. You never know and I heard strangers stories. 😊

I got one and didn’t even have a visa. Was in getting house registered/ change wife’s id address and guy asked if I wanted one. Pretty lucky just paid yea money and needed the village boss to sign some pictures and got another old guy to sign as a witness. Got yellow book and pink id.

You were lucky to get a license without one maybe

If you are in Thailand for more than 180 days in a calendar year, you are supposed to get a Tax ID number and file income taxes here.

If you own a property, I assume a condo in your name, you can get a yellow house book. If you have a yellow house book you can get a pink ID card.
Ja***

@John *********
Not necessarily. Every Amphur has its own rules. In my case I was unable to get a yellow house book for a condo I own because my Amphur office requires a visa or extension of stay with a minimum 1 year stamp. Also, you don't need to own a condo to get a yellow house book. I've heard of people getting one while renting a property (with assistance from their landlord).

James If you are married to a Thai you can also get one but if you're not it's difficult

Adam Brown That is correct - both Yellow Tabien Baan and pink card are from the Amphur. It is more complex to get, than wen I did years ago. The Amphur, responsible for Land tax, will also send you a tax bill (only a few THB worth)

Adam Brown was a long time ago in my case, but I also remember going to the land office for my yellow book and a later day going to the district office for the pink card.

There was also a house visit (condo visit) from 2 officials who verified everything, took pictures and needed a witness. They just sneakily coaxed someone from the juristic of my building to sign as my witness.

@Darren *******************
When you bought the condo you probably (should have) got a blue book for the condo but with no name in it. That's because foreigners can't go in blue house books, they go in yellow house books. Your local Amphur should be able to sort you out. If they give you a yellow book just ask for the pink ID card at the same time

Darren 'Griff' Griffiths may I ask why your brokerage account would need something other than your passport? If it is to show residence address, I imagine a certificate of residence from immigration would do the same thing.

Darren 'Griff' Griffiths I appreciate the clarification about the unusual circumstances why you would need it. Just wanted to be sure some major common government agency or other institution that accepted Thai driver's licenses as IDs didn't suddenly stop doing so.
