I’m currently in Hanoi preparing to apply for the DTV visa, but after reading a lot of recent experiences, I’m starting to feel a bit unsure. Last year, I entered Thailand on a 60-day tourist visa and later enrolled in a six-month Thai language course. With the proper visa extensions, I was able to stay for a full year—all completely by the book. I’ve never done any border runs or overstayed. I even took a short solo trip to Hong Kong to visit art exhibitions with friends during that time.

I’m now applying for the DTV as a freelance graphic designer, and I have all the required documentation ready—proof of income, an extensive portfolio, and everything else listed in the guidelines. At first, I thought my clean history and the fact that I followed all the rules would work in my favor. But some of the posts I’ve come across suggest otherwise, and now I’m wondering: could studying Thai in Bangkok actually hurt my chances instead of helping them?

Has anyone applied and succeeded for DTV using the Thai intensive course with Mind Language School in Koh Samui?

They offer a 2 week intensive course to learn Thai and say it’s eligible for the DTV as well.

I thought you can only do a language course on an ED’s visa?

Another question about applying for a soft power DTV to study Thai language. In the Los Angeles consulate website, the only ED visa offered is for 90 days max. [members only]

But the DTV does not list Thai language-learning among the purposes.

So how are you supposed to apply for a 9- or 12-month language course?

Thanks for any ideas.

Hello to everyone. Does someone have any experiences or knowledge about the DTV (destination Thailand Visa) relating to the version of this visa which includes Thai Soft Power Activities ? Is learning Thai language in this category?

Thank you for your help and support. 🙏😊🙏

If I do a one year Thai course and get the ED visa, but switch to online classes during the, will the visa still be valid?

I'm keen to learn Thai but will give birth during the year, so in-person classes might not be so practical with a newborn.

The school says this is fine, but I'm wondering if online classes are really allowed with the ED visa. Any thoughts?

Hi, I am currently holding a NON B extension (one year) and work permit but I am planning to quit job end of July. I want to stay in the kingdom, what are my options? Can I get an education visa (Thai language course) without leaving the country?

TIA.

Hi I have a question regarding Education Visa. I intend to apply for a Thai language course and I understand that after the school applies from the Ministry of Education and sends an approval letter, I'll have to take this letter and fly to Vientiane (because land borders are closed) to apply at the Thai Embassy there. Assuming the visa application goes well, upon returning by flight into Bangkok, what documents do I need to show the airport immigration upon entering?

We are currently in Thailand on a visa exempt until May 10th and are considering a Thai language course with online lessons. Do you know if non-ED visas are currently being issued? Thank you
