If you're applying for your DTV 180-day extension at immigration, make sure to do so at least two weeks before your visa expires.

This was a small but important detail I wasn’t aware of. Despite preparing a very comprehensive document package to support my application, I was turned away because I applied only 10 days before my visa's expiration date.

The immigration officer was very helpful and suggested I do a visa run instead.

I flew out to Malaysia and returned via Phuket Airport. Note: Arrivals are now required to complete a digital arrival card in advance. Honestly, this streamlined the entire process. You’ll have the option to list your employment - I listed myself as Founder and CEO of my own corporations, which I operate remotely - and you can also include your visa number for immigration reference.

Thanks to the new digital system, the entire re-entry process was smooth and hassle-free.

Edit: I had applied through Phuket Immigration Office.

I question for anyone who has just arrived in Bangkok by air. This may be a little long but I still confused by the immigration officers response.

I arrived early this morning from the US. Going through the immigration line and the officer looked at my passport and the Digital Arrival Card. I did the DAC at home and going through the questions, the boxes for “ where are you staying” and “On ward travel or return flight” were grayed out and you could not enter anything. So I tried it twice same thing. I went ahead with the process and it let me. Within minutes I received the email as completed and then printed it out which was one page. I also copied the QR code.

When she saw the DAC paper work she asked “ where is the second page, where are you staying and how long do you plan to stay. I am staying with a friend and had the address. She also wanted their name and phone number which I had. I had booked a flight to Cambodia out about 55 days in case I was asked this. I had planned on 60 days visa eexempt and possibly applying for the 30 day extension. Long story short she called my friend, apparently ask our relationship, ask how long I was staying and then told them they would need to take me to immigration ansi would need to get a Visa to stay longer. Now mins you, she only told them this and did not tell me. She finally stamped my pass port and I met my friends outside. They then told me what she said and none of us understood why she would say I need to go to immigration and get a Visa.

So if anyone may have an idea or if you are flying in just be aware of what they may be looking for on the DAC and hopefully you do not have the same issue. Thanks

FYI!!

Please make sure to fill out the TDAC form before entering Thailand.

Today (May 2) at Suvarnabhumi, they only asked me to show the passport and TDAC—nothing else was questioned. All they said was "Oh you hold DTV. Enjoy and don't forget to fill TDAC next time too."

If you haven’t filled it out online before reaching immigration, they’ll ask you to do it first. Quite a lot of people hadn’t completed the TDAC form. It seems like the line at the TDAC filling area is even longer than at immigration.

Richard Barrow reports...

"If you are arriving in Thailand on 1 May, you can now submit your digital arrival card (tdac.immigration.go.th). You can complete it on your smartphone even while waiting in the immigration queue. No smartphone? No problem. Use one of the TDAC kiosks provided at the airport."
