What's involved in a NZ citizen getting a visa to retire in Thailand? What sort of taxation does one face on a pension living there?

Not a Thai visa question, but definitely everything else :)

I'm looking at longer term visas in the region as a fall back for worst case scenario regarding tax liability in Thailand.

The Philippines looks to be the best option for long stay, no tax unless earning in country plus increases to UK state pension whilst in country.

Cambodia offers retirement long stay, no UK pension increases, not sure on tax yet, not resident under 180 days.

Vietnam only up to 90 days, no pension increase. Hope they extend visas going forward one day. Malaysia similar on 90 days.

Any other options I've missed? Thanks.

Canadian passport, retired over 50,currently in Thailand. I want to get a long term visa, just checked the Thai embassy website in Ottawa and it looks like they have eliminated everything except for the non immigrant O-A or arriving visa exempt for short stays. The O-A has to be applied for in Canada so I would have to fly back to complete it.

Are there any other options available to me?

Is there an advantage of the O-A visa compared to the O visa?

I have a quick question .

I plan on coming in December/January for 4 weeks on Visa exempt and plan to come for 3 weeks every 10-12 weeks on visa exempt as well until my permanent move in 2.5 yrs when I reach retirement age or get married with my thai girlfriend .. Now would I have any issues you think with IO .

Mind you I've been in July already this yr and was stuck there for 6 months from july last year Because of Australia's ridiculous lockdowns so I've got 2 covid extension ..

Are there any benefits (other than not needing to show funds in a Thai bank account) of applying for an o-a retirement visa in one's native country instead of an o retirement visa within Thailand? I believe that the former requires health insurance, and the latter doesn't.
