Ok Im new here, trying to sort through different visas and requirements.

I'm 64, in Texas, there no embassy near me but there is a " Royal Thai Consulate" in Dallas. I'm planning to retire next year and looking to move to SEA. I dont like the idea of a large amount of my money held hostage as in Philippines. I'm thinking the DTV would be best. So here are some thing I cant get straight.

1-as I understand it the DTV does not require the big deposit, is that correct?

A-it requires proof of minimum of 65,000 tbht

B- does it have to be to a thai bank or can i show statements from my US bank?

2- under soft power there is mention of use of medical facilities or wellness resort can qualify. can someone clarify wellness resort?

3- do you have to continue to prove income every time you renew for the 5 year term? Not a problem, just clarifying

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarification on Thai visa requirements, particularly about the DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) and retirement visas. Key questions include the financial proof required for the DTV, whether funds need to be in a Thai bank, details on medical facilities qualifying for the visa, and income verification for renewals. Responses clarify that the DTV requires proof of 500,000 baht and highlight misconceptions about visa types and application processes relevant to Texas residents.

I also live in Texas. There are two or three Royal Thai Consulate listed in Googgle but they all have been closed all visa applications if you live in Texas are submitted online to the Royal Thai Embassy in Washington DC

ikr. Where i can own land, own a business, zero tax on income from outside the country, flat 10% tax on net income from in country, even from your business if you own one. No cash on deposit for residency, not a lot of hoops to jump through to prove income. Simple bank statement, pension or SS. Beef is plentiful and inexpensive And the country is clean and uncrowded. A lot like rural US in the 1950s and 1960s

Go for it sounds like paradise.

morelikely to get killed in South America. Probably should look at state department warnings on South America. Rarely will you ever see an asian country listed because its unsafe and high violence. Practice renting a house in Oak cliff in dallas, it will prepare you for South America 555

thanks my search showed in person visit required at DC, Chicago or Los Angeles.

@Glenn ******
your search showed wrong. It's been multiple years already for evisa. Thai embassies do not even allow foreigners inside anymore

DTV is a nomad visa, you have to show That You are working remotely. It’s not a retirement visa, but the Thai visa website explains things Fairly clear.

I wasn’t arguing. I was just stating what the DTV is.

@Bob *********
but if you can only apply for DTV outside Thailand how do you get the funds in the bank for 3 months in order to qualify? And I thought DTV only needed proof of income not the large deposit , and does it have to stay on deposit the entire time youre there?

@Glenn ******
the 500k baht (approx $15k USD) requirement for DTV can be in your US bank account. But you have to show proof (bank statements ) of these funds being in that account for longer than 3 months.

excellent thats what Im trying to detetmine. And I can do that. Can it be in a brokerage (stock) account or must it be strictly checking or savings account at a bank?
Chris *******
I believe it has to be in a regular account and not an investment account. You can get all your official answers here: Official Website of Thailand Electronic Visa

To clarify on the medical scheme. You will need a letter from a doctor or a hospital in Thailand stating your condition and ongoing treatment plan with appointments lasting at least 6 months. A wellness center application is very risky as most people have not gone this route and we don't know how consulates look at them and what criteria they want for approval.

First of all, Dallas has nothing to do with anything. There is no such thing as going to a Thai embassy anymore. Everything is done online.

Second, you're mixing up visa types. 65,000 has nothing to do with DTV, that's number related to retirement visas.

The financial requirements for a DTV are showing proof of 500,000 baht or equivalent in your local currency to qualify.
