For the extension of the annual residence permit, we would like to switch from a bank certificate for 800,000 baht to a pension certificate. Can someone please tell me how long this pension certificate is valid? e.g. 3 months or 6 months from the date of issue?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The validity of a pension certificate for the extension of an annual residence permit in Thailand is generally 6 months from the date of issue, as confirmed by a recent police order. When applying for an extension based on retirement, it is important to have a letter of proof of income from the appropriate embassy, which can replace previous bank deposit requirements.

The income affidavit notary letters from the consulates that issue them are valid for 6 months from the date they're issued. There is a police order out about it which was dated April 22, 2013. All offices know this is the validity of the consulate issued monthly income documents

Beatrice is Swiss national. She needs to visit the Swiss embassy Bangkok, they are issueing letters of proof of income, she needs to obtain the legalized confirmation over a monthly income of no less than 65,000 THB. She can withdraw the 800,000+ THB deposit from her Thai bank account ANYTIME. She just needs an up-to-date-Swiss Embassy confirmed income letter at the day she applies for another year of Extension of stay permit based on retirement, using the income method for financial proof. The requirement to have kept 800,000 THB in the account for 2 months before the date of application for another year exstension, is normally void when one starts to use the income method, which requires no seasonings

read what I wrote in the above comment, because when you switch from banked money method (which you used for your previous extension) to monthly income method (by using the income affidavit) you need to meet the seasoning criteria of the banked money method you used last year <- meaning you needed to have kept the 800K baht in the bank for 3 months after your extension was granted last time AND until you apply for your new extension you're going to need to keep at least 400K baht in the account <- those were the terms for the extension last year.

It's tough to switch from banked money to monthly income because of that "meet the previous seasoning requirements" rule

what happens when the 800K baht in the bank for 3 months after the extensions were not kept? this does not concern me but my husband.

Just had a friend who tried to get his extension based on banked money. Last year he met the criteria to apply for the extension BUT rather than keeping the 800K baht in the account for 3 months (3 months date to date) he thought he needed to keep the funds in for only 90 days and when he went for his new extension they noticed he was short the 3 month seasoning by 2 days 😮 and he was denied an extension.

Thankfully he'd applied about a month early and he was able to just walk away from the office (as in withdraw his application for extension) AND buy a ticket out of the country.

Because he didn't actually apply for the extension (he was just told he'd be denied) he wasn't actually on any overstay "yet", so got out without a problem. He will get a new O-A visa and come back at the beginning of next year.

you would technically LOSE your extension effective that date and you'd be on overstay from the date you failed to meet the terms of your extension. 😕 <- meaning you could be looking at being banned for a year and the maximum overstay fine of 20K baht

DO NOT fail to meet the terms of your extension.

I am not sure but I think my husband did... He was always aware that the money had to be in the account 2 months before it expired, but not 3 months afterwards.

usually when you get an extension you sign a paper that says you acknowledge the terms of the extension.

Guess you'll find out when you go for the next extension 😕

She actually CAN'T break the seasoning terms of the 800K baht banked money that she used last year.

The terms to KEEP her current extension valid were have the 800K baht in the bank for 2 months before she applied for the extension, KEEP the balance at 800K baht for 3 month AFTER the extension was granted and then the balance can't go below 400K baht for the rest of the year.

Even though she is switching to "monthly income method" the terms of the previous banked money extension have to be met up until she applies for a new extension.

Is This even Possible ?

Yes, all the people from countries who provide this income affidavit must use it when they apply using their foreign monthly income.

Are you actually getting an extension of stay based on retirement?

Just FYI, Korat has 6 months validity.

And, you're going to use the "Embassy letter" method, correct (where your embassy writes a letter saying you make 65K THB a month in a pension)?

IF you are, the letter should be valid for three months, if my memory serves me right. Which immigration office will you use?
