TLDR : Answer Summary
Tom is seeking advice on how to renew his NON-OA visa while currently in Finland. His visa expires on 30 September and he plans to move to Thailand soon. He has over 400,000 THB in his Bangkok Bank account. He is uncertain if the original statement from his pension company is sufficient for the extension or if he needs to change his monthly income to Bangkok Bank. Various responses suggest applying for a new NON-OA visa from the Thai consulate in Finland, or entering Thailand before the visa expiration to apply for an extension. It is also noted that documentation requirements may vary between embassies and immigration offices.

IF you are indeed back in your country now. I'd say just apply for a NEW year-long, multi-entry Non-immigrant Type O-A visa from the thai consulate in Helsinki BEFORE you come back.

That visa will give you almost TWO years of stay in thailand before you have to worry about getting an extension.

, well as long as you come back on the O-A visa you're on now BEFORE Sept 30, 2019 you will be stamped in for a whole new year until 2020 so you might as well get the time out of this visa first...

I am at my homecountry now and on my O-A long stay...it expires 30.Sep.2019 Yes easyest way is to have new O-A visa from embassy and i do that and worry about IO after 2-years.

I think he's already on an extension as he said it runs out in 30th September. He wants too keep it alive but it seems he won't be in Thailand to renew it. He's asking how he can do it. He might be on an O-A though that is expiring. He's already got something!!

@Tom **********
, your post makes it seem like you are not even here yet on your O-A visa :O

I would suggest you GET here, and then pay a visit to the immigration office where you live to find out their exact requirements.

Sorry Marty pollard but from Finland normaly the affidavit is still accepted as income. So no monthly income prove...

If I understand you correctly you are currently in Finland coming up to the end of your first year of an O-A visa. You cannot get a 1 year extension outside of Thailand. You can get a new O-A visa. Same process as before. Or, as others have said, you can enter Thailand before the end of the 1st year and get stamped for another year.

When you eventually get to the point of applying for a 1 year extension then you have two options. You can used the banked money method. They want to see 800,000 baht in a Thai bank and they don't care about your pension letter or where the money came from.

If you want to use the monthly income method then they want to see money deposited in a Thai bank every month and you have to be able to show that the money is of foreign origin. I don't think they care about your pension letter or where you get the money as long as it comes from outside Thailand into a Thai bank.

I think when you apply for an O-A visa in your home country the pension letter may matter. I don't know about that. You already did this last year. The thing is that the requirements for getting a visa outside Thailand are slightly different than getting a 1 year extension inside Thailand. Outside Thailand you are dealing with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Inside Thailand you are dealing with the Department of Immigration.

I wrote to them...thanks!

Both are okay. First affidavit I got was the 2 months deposits on my Dutch bank and my second one where 2 months deposits on my Thai bank. But again, that's the Dutch Embassy. You really have to look on your own Embassy in Thailand.

Thanks! So 2-months paper from deposit was enough and did your depos go to not Thaibank? I am just trying to learn important things before i move there..
Peter ****************
But you are much too quick. If you have the 'O-A' then enter before 30 sept. And you already have an extra year as James Miller stated ! Rules can change in one and a half year....

Hi And what papers did you have with you?
Peter ****************
No, you can go to the Finnish Embassy in Bangkok for the affidavit I guess. For Netherlands I used that already 2 times at the Dutch Embassy.

Thank you! And doing this inside Thailand might be impossible.

@Tom **********
of course an embassy can't do an extension, :O an embassy sells VISAS, you get extensions INSIDE thailand at the thai immigration office

I am in Finland now. I think embassy cant do my 1st extention of stay cos they are not IO?
Robert *******
Just visit your Immigration Office and ask. Many people do have Extensions of Stay so it is not impossible. You must be prepared and to get prepared is to make the visit and ask.
Robert *******
If you like to use a combination method between money in the bank and the income affidavit from your Embassy you have to speak with your Immigration Office first. There are reports of several Immigration Offices that do not allow them any more. For sure they will not approve you pension company documents, it must be the income affidavit from your Embassy.

I mean pension companys paper about my pension.

Thank you Robert. So i can not use deposit/monthly income when i am renewing my permit to stay when i am in Thailand,correct?
Robert *******
The Finish Embassy is as far as I know still handing out the affidavit of income, you can use this to show a monthly income of not less than 65.000 Thb. If you prefer to use the bank method it is 800.000 Thb at least 2 months before till at least 3 months after application date and the rest of the year not less than 400.000 Thb in a Thai bank account on your name.

I know...Question is about IO requiments do they accept my pension companys certificate about amount of my pension + 400K baht in bank overall over 800K. I am trying to find out is pension companys paper enough to IO as it was at consulate where i got my Non imm O-A visa.

To keep your current O-A visa alive as you asked...enter Thailand before the expiration date if your current O-A visa which I assume...from your post is 30 September 2019.
James ********
Do yourself a favor ...if you are age 50+ ... get the O-A Multi-entry visa for retirement in your home country. No Thai baht needed in a Thai bank...with planning gives you up to two years in Thailand. Keep your $$ in Finland. Look at the Thai Embassy website in Finland for requirements. Should be easy to do. Also use search at top of this forum page for O-A visa... Many helpful posts by others.

@Tom **********
OK...before end of second year go to your local immigration office to get their list of requirements to obtain an Extension of Stay for 365 days. Fulfill the requirements and your given the extension. Best to go early...say 30 days before to get list of the requirements. Your 800,000 Thai baht must be seasoned two months before date of extension and kept in bank full three months after. Must keep minimum 400,000 Thai baht in bank for remaining months. But top up to 800,000 again two months before you apply for another Extension of Stay for 365 days.

I know and after that renewing is my question!

Tom Grönqvist are you in your first year of the O-A? If so you can extend it for a second year by leaving and returning to Thailand before the end date of your first year. But be sure you buy a reentry permit before you depart.
