Hi,

I'd like to apply a "Non-Immigrant Type O (Retirement (pensioner aged 50 or above with a state pension who wants to stay in Thailand for no longer than 90 days) - single entry only)"

I'm in the UK. Whilst I am retired I do not receive a state pension (I'm too young at 62 yrs πŸ˜€) and I do not draw upon my pension yet. I live off my savings.

I'm getting my information from here - [members only]

I can provide the necessary financial statements BUT the balances are not, strictly speaking, from a pension.

Do I qualify for the above type of visa?

Many thanks for any advice.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about qualifying for a Non-Immigrant Type O visa despite not receiving a state pension, as they are 62 and financially supported by savings. Comments suggest alternatives like the Tourist Visa for a 90-day stay, emphasizing the need to meet financial requirements, which can be satisfied with personal savings or monthly income, rather than a pension specifically.

If you're comin' for no longer than 90 days just get a single entry tourist visa. That will stamp you in for 60 days and you can extend that by 30 more days at the immigration office here for 1900baht.

The O visa you're asking about is primarily for people who want to get long term extensions of stays inside the country once they get here.

If you're just coming for less than 90 days get a single entry tourist visa

It is not clear to me. Is it your intention to come here as a tourist or to move here and stay long term?

If you are planning to stay long term then you should apply for an O-A visa before you come here. Search this group to learn about the benefits of the O-A visa.

After living here for 1-2 years on an O-A visa you will have to meet the financial requirements for a one year extension. You will have plenty of time to prepare for that but you should make sure you can meet those requirements for the long term.

There are a variety of tourist visas and 30 day visa exempt I think for UK citizens. How long do you intend to stay? Best to let the Admins answer after that.

As he says: "who wants to stay in Thailand for no longer than 90 days) - single entry only)"..then the Tourist Visa is perfect for him. Apply using the new E-Visa online application from the UK.

OR he could obtain an O-A visa for retirement. NO money needed in a Thai bank. Give him up to two years stay as he wishes in Thailand. ...OR obtain a Tourist Visa which gives him 60 days upon arrival plus added 30 days wth extension fee of 1,900 Thai baht.

- OA the better option - especially as the pound is falling/baht is so strong.

If you choose the "monthly income method" this means that you must prove for a period of 12 months, that you have income of a minimum of 65,000 THB arriving on your thai bank account from outside of Thailand EVERY month - in this case it is irrelevant how you generate your income as long as you can prove it and it doesn't necessarily have to be a pension
Gregor **********
it says "for persons OR pensioners" so clearly you are the "person" in this case who is NOT a pensioner, yet with enough savings to meet the financial requirement of a minimum of 800,000 THB on a thai bank account in your name, giving you the peace of mind - as it is the easiest procedure to follow. Or you can use the monthly income method (which is much more complicated to comply with)

that's right, the requirement however will arise when you apply for the Extension of Stay based on retirement

, thanks for replying. I don’t see a requirement of 800K baht for this visa.
