As every embassy or consulate has slightly different requirements / paperwork for a DTV, I wanted to run this scenario by all of you so that you can point out any pitfalls I might encounter.

I want to apply for a remote workers DTV in a few months.

Recently I set up a Sole Proprietorship company in another country ( Indonesia ) where I would be acting as the sole shareholder/ director of the company but not as an employee.

The company specializes in Business Consultancy and this is the seasonal work I would be doing while inside Thailand for six months a year.

None of my client base is inside Thailand, all Europe.

The problem is, like Thailand it is a PITA to sort out work permits and business visas for Indonesia but I do NOT need any special visa to be an UNPAID director or shareholder of a company registered there.

The only future income I will be earning will be when I will be remotely working while in Thailand.

So, taking into consideration that I am not an employee but a documented business owner / majority shareholder of a non Thai company with no proof of income YET , will this pass the application process and can it be explained away ?

I can show 500.000 thb in a Thai bank account for over 3 months.

Still undecided as to where I will apply.

Suggestions, comments and advice how to address this issue appreciated.

Hello everyone,

I have recently moved to a new condo, still in Bangkok but different area. I will need to have my address changed for my bank account at SCB. I forgot what document they needed when I opened the account a few years ago. Can I just give them my new address at any branch or do I need a copy of my lease or anything else?

Thank you very much

I've recently applied for a DTV from Singapore. I'm a Singapore citizen.

I applied under the freelance/digital nomad route.

I have income from my online and in-person (only in Singapore, fly in couple of times a year) work, but the rest is mostly from passive income (rental and dividends)

My big issue is with the interview. I applied on 29 September, and I'm flying out of the country to Korea on the 20th of October. I assumed that I would be able to defer the interview should it be scheduled after I leave, to after I come back from Korea but I read somewhere that one has to reschedule their interview within 7 days of the requested interview day/time or the application gets rejected.

Does anyone else have such an experience before? I have another 18 days left for additional documents/interview, and I know that every country is different. Just feeling a little anxious and wanted to get some perspectives. Losing $500 is a lot of money.

Denied DTV visa at the Chicago consulate due to a misspelling on my name. I read the posts in the group over the weekend and freaked out. $400 mistake on my part.

Currently in the process of having my paperwork overlooked by an agency but they’re pushing that I re-apply in Vietnam.

Should I travel to Vietnam and apply from Ho Chi Min or should I stay and re-apply at the same consulate from the US?

My rejection email from the visa site just states to reapply and I doubt it’d be different at a different consulate unless I’m wrong?

Thoughts?

Hi everyone, I’m applying for a 12-month cooking course in Thailand as the basis for my DTV visa, and I have a few questions I hope someone with experience can clarify:

Q1. Leasing & Utilities

Can I sign a 12-month apartment lease in Chiang Mai while on a DTV visa, and is it possible to get the utility bills under my name (for things like proof of address, etc.)?

Q2. Multiple Long Stays

My planned schedule is:

* Stay in Thailand for 120 days (first entry)

* Leave for about a month

* Return and stay for another 120 days (second entry)

* Leave again for a month

* Return for a 50-day stay (third entry)

Since I will be spending time back in my home country between visits (not doing border runs), will immigration be okay with this pattern, or could I be questioned at re-entry?

Q3. Tax Residency & Credit Cards

If I end up becoming a Thai tax resident (over 183 days in a calendar year), are international credit card transactions (when I pay expenses directly from my home country bank/credit card) considered taxable remittances in Thailand?

Would love to hear from anyone who has done something similar or has direct experience with DTV visa rules, leasing, and tax matters 🙏

Thanks in advance!

In view of on-going Bangkok Bank problems, I am thinking of opening another account elsewhere. Despite having lived at the same address for over a decade, nothing is in my name. So, how do I prove my address? Is a Thai driving licence sufficient? Seem to recall something about a yellow book. Is that an answer? Something from Immigration, despite them never having visited?

What is involved in changing from a DTV to a non o during the 5 year DTV period and is this allowed? Currently I am not in a position to move permanently but spend many months a year in Thailand. Thank you in advance for your advice. Kopkunkrap

Does anyone have an up to date, English language list of requirements needed by Jomtien immigration for a 1 year extension of stay based on marriage to a Thai?

I've just been in and all they have is a list printed in Thai which seems strange as surely everyone who wants to apply will be non Thai?

With the best will in the world this isn't something my wife could confidently deal with.
