Hello everyone ,

As I get ready to make my retirement jump to Thailand , I have a couple of odd / different questions to ask.

Was wondering if my Netflix and my Amazon prime movies/ Paramount will work in Thailand , for those days I just want some solitude and comfort food......

Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
Many users report that Netflix and Amazon Prime Video do work in Thailand, although the selection may change, and some content might be region-locked. Using a VPN can enhance access to a broader library, particularly for Amazon Prime, which may block some movies in Thailand. A Fire Stick is recommended for streaming, and users can install VPN apps on it to bypass regional restrictions. Streaming on Smart TVs is also possible, so long as you have a good internet connection and the necessary subscriptions.

I use a firestick with an app I downloaded on it. Not going in to details, I watch everything including USA local channels. Never had a problem. Never used Netflix or Prime
Lucky ********
Nord VPN works on Fire TV stick
Jon ********
They will work. All you need is Wi-Fi and subscriptions to the services. Smart TVs have those services embedded in to the remotes these days with individual buttons.
Zahoor ********
I am interested please let me know
Sharron *******
So if I buy a new smart TV there, I should be able to still get Netflix, and Viki? without a firestick? I have smart TV here in Florida and that's all I need, with the membership to both channels.??
Mike *******
Vpn
Kevin ********
But a smart TV šŸ“ŗ you down all the apps from your phone but get a decent wi fi
Marta *****
I use VPN but whatā€™s a fire stick??šŸ¤”

My Netflix works fine
Roger **********
Netflix yes but they might hassle you to upgrade your membership
Paul *******
Netflix fine. Amazon has a selection you can watch abroad but quite a few things you canā€™t watch. With VPN itā€™s fine. Apple TV is fine.
Nongnuch ********
@Paul ******
amazon prime detected my VPN. I cannot watch amazon prime movies in Thailand. Netflix is ok, I suscribed to the Thai Netflix. So my Thai GF can watch movies in Thai language and Thai subtitles
Paul **********
you dont need a firestick or VPN just log in as you do at home.
Luc ************
No VPN needed.
Alfred ***********
If you download Netflix in the USA or UK on your phone or computer you have the exact same in thailand. If you want to watch on a big screen just but a smart TV and you can flip from phone or computer to TV.
Andy ************
I just set up a Thai Netflix account itā€™s cheaper.
Dhyana ******
Netflix works for us. Paramount, hulu, Disney all won't work for us even with vpn.
Thomas *******
I just cast Netflix from my phone.
Bob **********
Your Netflix will work and Amazon Prime should I would buy a couple Firesticks and bring them you can buy an IPTV package where youā€™ll get everything for about 3500 baht a year

sometimes you just want a down day , with some relaxation and self space.............plan on seeing the country 95% of the time
Nick ************
Its easy enough to install a vpn on on a firestick .I use bitdefender and had to Google how to install it. Works with Netflix and most other things I use for most of the time.
Chuck ************
If you are trying to bypass country/regional restrictions you will need a VPN. Netflix has a pretty sophisticated algorithm that can identify most commercial VPNs so if you are looking for US content having a private VPN server is the reliable solution... set up a server at your US home, or a family or friends home. The downside is that your bandwidth VPNing to the US is severely impacted and you may see some buffering issues.
Brad *********
I have express VPN app on my phone connect and then mirror my phone to my smart tv. Works most of the time
Us *****
You need to cancel all those accounts. Then use a Thai number and sign up again. They charge you the local price which is way cheaper.

Had no problem with Netflix or Amazon prime with a vpn. However I canā€™t get YouTube TV to work for me. Which I wanted for nfl games. Hulu and a few other apps also wonā€™t work with Nord VPN for me. It seems others have had different results though.
Richard ******************
Netflix will detect a vpn so thatā€™s a no go but most shows will work as well as you might get access to others that you canā€™t see either in the UK or the US due to licensing restrictionsā€¦
Jeff *******
@Richard *****************
ok straight off the bat thatā€™s wrong. I watch Netflix through a Nord VPN.
Richard ******************
@Jeff ******
nope not just me but again everyoneā€™s an expert, šŸ˜‚ How the heck am I wrong when itā€™s printed right there. Thatā€™s not my link or my website, thatā€™s Netflix, geesh some people and if all you want to do is argue you can move on to your next battle as I have dropped the mic on this one, šŸ˜‚
Jeff *******
@Richard *****************
OK you're clearly struggling and I'm a nice guy. VPN companies have thousands of servers and list new ones all the time, companies like Netflix (apparently) and betting companies get wind of these and ban them, all you need to do is find a server name they haven't got wind of yet. If you mail Nord they will suggest servers to use (new ones) - there, all that education for free!
Richard ******************
@Jeff ******
no struggles here I just know what I have dealt with. Again I know what I have experienced and itā€™s not as easy or straightforward as you point out, šŸ˜‚ but again I am not going to argue with you about something that I know to be true and have experienced with many vpns and I have gone down such suggested paths and do continue to have issues. Try not to hate the player, just hate the game, šŸ˜‚
Richard ******************
@Jeff ******
it isnā€™t wrong as I use the paid version of Nord and have this issue with just Netflix. So yea you can argue but this is absolutely what happens on my system and I am in Technology so I know this is the case 100%, šŸ˜‚
Jeff *******
@Richard *****************
whereas I donā€™t (paid Nord as well, is there a free option?) so the problem is clearly yours.
Richard ******************
@Jeff ******
again you donā€™t know what you are talking about and so you canā€™t make generalizations about your experience! So I guess the article attached means nothing, šŸ˜‚ just because you like to argue doesnā€™t mean your right:

************************************
Jeff *******
@Richard *****************
how the f*ck can I not know what I'm talking about when I'm actually doing it! Bizarre. I have absolutely no problem watching ALL Netflix content IN Thailand using a PAID Nord VPN account. Look at the other comments, others can too. I'm afraid it's you!šŸ¤£
Rayona ****************
Mine didnā€™t work, but Apple TV worked fine.
Paul **********
@Rayona ***************
that's the only one I've lost, I've got the other two. but no Apple TV.

Netflix and Amazon Prime are available through Wizz TV.
Todd **********
Prime works fine! I watch it on my phone when there. Donā€™t know about Netflix but itā€™s really cheap there

Netflix works, kinda. Thailand has some censorship laws so sometimes some movies aren't allowed. Additionally, Netflix will think you're in Asia and therefore show you a lot of Asian option (kpop, Thai dramas, etc).

There is a device you can buy that gets you access to a lot of viewing material for free. Its basically a device that downloads and plays bit torrents.

I manually download bit torrents and watching them on my tv, but that can be a pain if you're not technically inclined.
Edward ********
I live in Thailand, if you don't have a VPN Netflix works Amazon prime can only see like 8 movies while travelling , however you can see all your purchase movies, Paramount plus does not work.
Tai *********
Sure, both work.
Marty *********
I have Netflix but it is Asian Netflix. It has a slightly different selection movies plus, I assume, a greater selection of Asian movies.
Phil ******
Wayne *********
Netflix and prime both work without a vpn I have them both on my iPad and my smart tv and use my Australian accounts.
Peter **********
I use a Dutch IPTV subscription but it works only when using an EU based IP address. I use NordVPN to simulate that whenever I am in Thailand.
Tom ******
Have used Nord VPN for a couple of years. Works well with YouTube tv which is not permitted in Thailand. For Netflix they advise you to stop using in USA before end of billing period and start up again in Thailand. I really like the Thai Netflix content. Your billing charge will not change.
KO ********
@Tom *****
yeah Nord is great and added bonus it is now available on Apple TV
Sue *********
Amazon Prime works, but some movies are blocked. Maybe a VPN solves that problem?
Peter **********
@Sue ********
Yes, it does.
Ann ************
Yep VPN

I am from Australia and use express vpn

Then i can also watch aus tv
Rj ******
Do you add a vpn to a fire stick
Jared *********
@Rj *****
I added a VPN and used Netflix in Japan, indonesia, Philippines and thailand.

Netflix show catalogies change if it's US Netflix versus Thai Netflix. So if I want Thai Netflix catalog of shows I don't turn the VPN on and if I want US Netflix shows then I turn on the VPN.

Choose a VPN that works well for Netflix. Some require specific settings to make this work. I use Nord VPN and use specific servers that can hide location from Netflix better.
Greg *********
@Rj *****
I never needed to, I think that VPN is a scam
John ********
@Greg ********
Try when living in the UK to stream Tubi TV without a VPN. Can't, select an American IP address and it streams, so your analogy that Vpn's are a scam is incorrect.
Lee ***********
@Greg ********
not hardly a scam my friend
Rj ******
How
Rj ******
Anyone can tell me from usa, we're to buy a fire stick with vpn ready for thailand
Dennis *********
@Rj *****
Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart for the fire stick. Several different VPN apps you can choose to use. I'd google it. Lots of good ones out there to choose from.
Rj ******
Vpn vpn vpn
Paul ********
@Rj *****
no all vpns work once detected it becomes useless
Mel ******
Both work for me. I donā€™t even bother with vpn since I already have too many shows cued up to watch on both plus I like watching some of the Thai movies on Netflix with the English subtitles. Hehe
John **********
Fire stick and they will work fine
Denyse *******
We use our fire stick with a VPN when we are there
Sean **********
@Denyse ******
are you able to view Amazon Prime on the firestick with VPN.

I tried a VPN on my laptop but Amazon detected the VPN connect and reject access to Amazon Prime
Jared *********
@Sean *********
in this case use the "obfiscutated" (or some weird word like that hahaha) I'd using NORDVPN. It does something different to hide the location better from Netflix and Amazon. Works well
Sean **********
@Jared ********
iā€™ll look, thanks šŸ™
Denyse *******
@Sean *********
I don't have Amazon prime but I do get access to BBC, itv etc
Ruth *******
@Denyse ******
is have VPN on my computer and phone for security and will occasionally watch movies. However, how do you set it up for a firestick or similar device (I actually have Roku, but itā€™s probably similar).
Chuck ************
@Ruth ******
For your firestick, chromecast or roku to use a VPN you have to set it up on your router. The downside is that your whole house is then routed through the VPN and your internet is subject to the "restrictions" of your VPN, speed of connection and any VPN location specifics. If your VPN is to a server in the EU your internet will route from Thailand to the EU and back. If there are country specific restrictions you will be subscribed to those restrictions while the VPN is turned on.
Jared *********
@Chuck ***********
this is not correct. I have downloaded a VPN onto my firestick. Nothing special or anything... just search the apps.

I chose NORDVPN and it works
Chuck ************
Some are saying that newer streaming devices give you the ability to download VPN apps... don't own any of the newer generation devices or have any presently attached but know from the past that the VPN apps like ExpressVPN and Nord are for a fee ($) apps. For services like Netflix and Amazon you will get whatever limitations or restrictions are in place for the geo location your VPN is set to... that means if you are setting VPN location to Thailand you only get thai content, UK will be UK content, USA will be USA content. Netflix (I believe Amazon as well) has a very sophisticated algorithm and blocks know VPN IP addresses. Some VPNs will not achieve the geo location change you may be looking to overcome. Also keep in mind that the VPN overhead to bandwidth may have an affect on your streaming stability.
Ruth *******
@Chuck ***********
thatā€™s what I thought. Your comment sounded like you did something different within the firestick itself. What I donā€™t know is how to setup the VPN in the router, which is why I have not yet done it. Having everything going through it is not a problem as I already use VPN for security.
Denyse *******
@Ruth ******
I downloaded the app for my VPN onto the firestick
Ruth *******
@Denyse ******
can I also ask what vpn you use, in case mine doesnā€™t provide that option? Iā€™ll do more research when Iā€™m at my computer
Denyse *******
@Ruth ******
we use Nord VPN and used to use surfshark - both had apps on fire stick
Ruth *******
@Denyse ******
thanks! Iā€™ll have to see if the same is available for Roku. If not, Iā€™ll pickup a firestick.
Denyse *******
@Ruth ******
we found it really helpful, we not really nightlife people so watched some UK TV most evenings
Chuck ************
@Ruth ******
this may not be a capability that your router has... really depends on your router and if you have admin rights/access. There are some "appliances" that you can buy that could allow you to create a VPN or VPN like environment between your internet connection and your streaming device BUT you will likely suffer additional bandwidth reductions that may make your streaming experience frustrating. Higher end "prosumer" routers like Ubiquiti and Mikrotik... allow you to specify VPN per connection. These type of devices have a learning curve and require some networking technical expertise. Best advice I can give is find someone that you trust (this person will need to have access to your home internet) that can give you some networking advice.
