I've decided to give up and just get a tourist visa. I'll deal with getting it converted once I'm back in Thailand if I'm here long enough

It looks like to do it in Jakarta you need to be a resident of Indonesia. So confusing. I am US citizen.

@Be**
, I couldn't find anything there.

, sorry, I should have worded my request differently. I won't find out until I get to the consulate in Denpassar on Friday if they will process a request for a non-O visa. If they do, I still won't find out until then what paperwork they will want. So, I'm asking a worst-case scenario question. I will have the affidavit and a copy of my bank statement. What else could I possibly need? A health check up from the hospital here before I go? Any kind of rental agreement from my landlord? If so, for how long? Is one month enough? Anything else? What is the most that you have heard that people are asked for? Thanks!

Thanks for all your help. If I were to apply for the non-O in Bali, what other paperwork do I need to bring?

Ok, so if they won't do what you described, I can just come back without the tourist visa, get the exemption on arrival, which is only 30 days, and then apply for the non-O right away in Samui? If so, will I still need two affidavits, one for the initial application and then one for the extension?

So then the safest bet is to get the simple single entry tourist visa and then, the day I come back, take it to Samui and ask to transfer it to the Non-O? Then wait 60 days and ask for the yearly extension? But will I need two affidavits? One when I ask for the non-O to begin with, and another when I ask for the yearly extension?

But earlier in the thread you 'Go to a thai consulate in another country and buy a 90 day single entry Non-O visa, get stamped in for 90 days, and when you have 30 days or less left on that stamp apply for the year extension at the immigration office.' Can I do that without specifying why I want the non-O? I'm a little lost.

OK,
@Tod ********
, picking the conversation back up here. I'm heading to Bali on Thursday to get a new visa. I'll drop off the new form at the consulate on Friday. So I can apply either for another tourist visa or the non-O directly, correct? If I ask for the non-O, I have to give a reason, correct? And that reason would be retirement? Can I submit a copy of my bank statement showing sufficient funds in a US bank, or do I have to use the affidavit I got at the US embassy in Bangkok? What else would I need to apply for the non-O?

so when you already have a tourist visa, and apply to change it to a Non O, does the Non O start fresh for 90 days from that point, or does it just have the same number of days left that the original tourist visa had? So if there was just 30 days left on the tourist visa, is there now only 30 left on the Non O and I can apply straight away for the yearly extension, or does the Non O start fresh and I still have to wait 60 days to apply for the yearly extension?
