Yes, why not get the non O visa, which does not require the insurance. Then shop around for insurance with a higher deductable like one one else posted...However, if you can not afford to put the required amount of money in a Thai bank to get the non O, then thats another issue.

ment to say: I would bet opening a bank account on a Non O or Non OA, would still be possible?

In other words, does either of those two visas make it easier or more difficult?

Ok...good info again. Gottcha...

Better to start with an O visa....I can get that from the Thai consulate in Cambodia. However, one

of the previous posts stated that I can most likely get only a Non OA ( needing the insurance, which I.d rather avoid) from the consulate here in Cambodia. I.ll find that out fairly soon.

And yeah, according to other posts, it appears easier to get a bank account outside of Bkk. Some said the did open an account with a tourist visa, but outside of Bkk.

I would get opening a bank account on a Non O or a Non OA would still be possible? Any feedback on if the Non O or OA would make a difference in getting the account?

you got me thinking...( and you.ve provided answers for me before)

You say when you check into a hotel, the hotel sends a TM 30 report to immigration. I.m curious about this as I hope to be trying to go through the process of getting an Non O, (not NonOA )and I.m curious about knowing if ALL HOTELS are obligated to send a TM 30 when someone checks in.

Does this apply to travelers who are flying in on the free 30 day exemption? Do the hotels send in a report then as well?

Finally, as I will want to get a Non O, I.ll get most likely a METV online when I.m back in the Usa end of this year. After flying into Thailand with a METV, and checking in a hotel, can I presume the hotel will send in a TM 30 report, and I might be able to use that address to open a bank account? (Or for example, would one need to be checked in a hotel on a Non O, to use a hotel TM 30 report, to open a bank account?

Thanks...you seem to be a very good straight shooter in info๐Ÿ‘

thanks for the info...I.m from the US as well, and read on this FB group, many banks at least in Bkk wanted embassy authorization of passport. I.ll try to do that just in case.

I wont be doing the account in Phuket, but will try in Bkk first then CM, or with an agent if it fails.

So you were able to open the account on a T visa.. Was it a METV? Or on the visa exempt free 30 day visa?( Seems like you dont need the non O?)

Next, the bank sold you the accident insurance?

( I can deal with that, if it straighforward)

Finally, the TM 30 can be from a hotel, and immigration will accept that? (Just asking for confirmation, as they screwed it up in your comment. I had a similar experence here having a landlord mess up a residency app we need to do here)

I do appreciate you answers and follow up clarification, esp if you opened the account on a METVisa or a different type of tourist visa?

Thanks.

Jack, well done. I hope to do the same, or at least try in the next few months when I totally finished work in Cambodia.

Would you mind answering a Q or 2? I.m aware with most of the procedures.

Which bank branch did you use to open the account, and what did you need?

For example, a) which visa were you on

b) did you need to show a housing lease...with a TM 30 report? c) did you need to show the bank that passport was real, by notary or authorization from an embassy?

Seems getting a bank account in Thailand, for myself at least, has been a major stumbling block even though I have 3 accounts in Cambodia.

Will appreciate your info.

Cheers.
