I used to work as a property manager years ago and Airbnb had a variety of cancellation policies the owner could use, it's really up to them which one apply, I think in the recent years policy may differ based on the location, but I haven't check in a while since I'm not working in that field anymore, but yeah, there's always a risk of losing the reservation.
I think here are quite demanding because they don't have many people applying so they tend to check more deeply every aspect.
I think they really need to unify the requirement for all embassy to follow the same procedure, it's a total mess now, it's too much dependent on the interpretation of each embassy on the rules and strictness.
Well, we would have gone anyway and probably apply somewhere else if not approved here, but the reservations are still refundable, for long term Airbnb only charge 1 month at booking and the rest monthly near the check-in, basically like paying a rent, it's not all pay immediately, I don't remember the date when the money are not refundable but near the check-in date
here in Czechia as a freelancer you need at least 2 clients or they think you trying to avoid some taxing not being employed and using this strategy, so need to be careful and the law about this, maybe those countries have no problem but others may have
They serve different purposes, what's the point of comparing? With one you work and the other is a tourist visa, so what if one is cheaper and one more expensive?
If you have to work no matter the cost, you need a working visa, even if DTV is cheaper doesn't allow to work, what kind of mental gymnastic are you trying to do here?
