Hi everyone,

Could anyone clarify how far in advance we’re allowed to apply for the DTV? For exxample, if I plan to arrive in Thailand in March 2025, would it be possible to submit the application as early as December 2024?

Has anyone had experience with this through the Hanoi Embassy? Thank you for your help!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The general recommendation for applying for a DTV visa to Thailand is no more than 3 months in advance of your planned arrival. Experiences shared by respondents indicate that while this is a common guideline, there might be some variability depending on the embassy. Additionally, applicants may not need to provide details such as flight numbers or hotel bookings during the application process. It's advisable to check the specific requirements of the embassy where you will submit your application.

Check the website of the Embassy you will apply at.

Generally is no longer than 3 month before traveling the recommendation.

When you apply over 3 months before the planned trip they might cancel the application, without refund.

But you only specify a planned date, nobody will check for it when you actually arrive.

Thank you. I saw some posts mentioned that we have to at least show the booking of the hotel/flights. Should be fine if we just book something random and cancel afterwards right?

It seems every embassy has different rules, even with e-visa.

I only was asked when I planned to travel and where I would stay.

I was not asked for flight number, nor did I have to upload flight ticket or show hotel booking.

I only was asked for address where I stay and that is the house my wife and I own in Thailand.

Isn’t it it doesn’t really matter how far in advance you apply? Since it’s a 5 year term

I mean just mention a date within 3 months, it is only a planned dat, nobody checks if you actual arrive at that date or before or later.

For DTV it will be valid for 5 years from moment of approval.

For some other types of visa the 3 month limit might make sense, but not for DTV.

the thing is that if you do like that, then you lose time from the 5 years, as the clock starts on the visa issue date, not the date of first entry.

I know, but who cares about a few months more or less?

So if you think you can comply with requirements now, and you are not sure you can in a few months, just apply now.

Otherwise just wait till about one or two months before you plan to travel.
