If been to Penang a couple of times. Always flown though, so the ferry sounds a bit more interesting. Maybe a night or two in Langkawi. Can you update this post if you do that, please?

Yes, it will. Contact True to activate international roaming if it isn't activated. I think they do daily packages from ฿99. (Depending on country)
