I've had repairs to my specs, then a sight test, and a new prescription. A regular clear pair of varifocals put in my own frame and a pair of prescription sunglasses in a new frame. From an optician who operates from a stall in a large market, but who brought the finished products to my home. Total cost about 7,000 baht. That's maybe a third of the cost for the same glasses in the UK

Again? What? You are responsible for what you do, don't look to Facebook for legal opinions. Ask a Thai police officer

You can make merit. You can't usually volunteer for any work a Thai could do. Too many businesses would take advantage, use free foreign labour instead of paying Thais

I don't need to think it through, Jeff, as I won't be doing drugs deals or gambling. More fool anyone who does. Fact remains, money you bring into Thailand is taxable if you're here 180 days plus. The only way to reduce the tax payable is to show you've already paid tax at home.

The onus is on you to demonstrate you have already paid tax in another country. If you cannot, then there is nothing to offset the Thai income tax due on it

exactly. I have COPD and of course I wouldn't go in the burning season. I'm told by a friend who spent Songkran in Chiang Mai a couple of years ago, the ash can fall in quite large chunks, so it's not just a matter of a slight burning smell, it could block the lungs of anyone who is sensitive
