Unless made here in Thai. Then no import tax. Prices are okay and even a bit lower than US or UK. Used prices are even better... given these economic times and repo rates.

Try Greece or the Caribbean.... easier and less complicated same prices and better weather. Oh... and less beurocracy to deal with getting permission (Thai Pass) to get in.

Everyone... wait. Don't book anything until end of May. This country has no idea what it is doing. The rules keep changing. My local immigration office folks all say to wait as they have no idea either.

If you have booked and done the stupid Thai pass or test and go or whatever silly names they add to describe a confusing mind numbing and frustrating needless procedure... then you are on your own. As

Then it just me and about 50 others I I know who have had no problems at all I guess.

Just shop around.... smile... wai.... dress like you are going to the office... is generally the rule of thumb.

nope. You can open an account here on a simple tourist and certainly on a Non O (any kind). Yes shopping around might be the order on the day... but K and BKK banks will do it with very little money as deposit (around 1000 bht).

rubbish! Yes one has to shop around but you will find one. Try BKK Bank as they have representation in US.

I did years ago and u know many that have opened and account (usually ONLY savings) over the past 2 years.

Cards are all accepted except most local small shops and markets. I say most

.. but it depends. But make sure the cards are free from international transaction fees. Forget Amex... really only MC or Visa. Amex at only very high end places and hotels.

Keep a US address and phone number. Can be friend or family (latter preferable?). Do all accounting on line. Do NOT volunteer you are living overseas full time. Traveling is best excuse when you need one. Credit cards from US institutions will only send to your US address. Then have family or friend mail them using Registered Mail from USPS (cheaper and takes about 6 to 10 days... well with luck). Make sure cards do not add

international fees (Capital One and others. Amex acceptance is few and far between). Again... everything here can be done on line.

It is supposed to be a controlled substance requiring a DR prescription..... however..... be careful you gets legit product. A local clinic is best bet but over the counter is not advised.
