May I ask if husband and wife were to apply for retirement O visa in Chiangmai, do we need to have 800k baht bank account EACH or do we only need one 800k baht if we can provide a marriage certificate? Anyone done this type of visa application? Appreciate your advice.

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a retirement NON-O visa in Chiang Mai, each spouse typically needs to show proof of having 800,000 baht in a bank account. However, there are options for a trailing spouse, which may alleviate the need for the second account, provided proper documentation like a marriage certificate is legalized. It's advised to consult with agents or prepare documents in advance to streamline the process.

Do.in home country for the trailing spouse thing. Yes easy and will save you doing 800K twice. But the other way is ...use and agent and let them do it all for you.
We were advised to get our original Non O in our home country before coming to Thailand. Once we applied for the year extension, we were able to get me on a trailing spouse. We are Canadian and had the local consulate do an affidavit of income for my husband and verify our marriage certificate. I can't say if this works with the 800,000THB method.
If you time things right you could save 400k locked up, but would mean timing things perfectly and a high potential for screw ups.
If you were to go for your year extension 6 or so months before your husband then you could do a bit of jiggling money between the accounts to allow for the 800k 2 months before/3 months after and each have the 800k as needed.
Each person applying for the non-O based on retirement will need their own 800,000.
It may be possible to do a trailing spouse non-O, but that involves leaving the country to get her non-O after you've gotten your first 1 year extension.
