TLDR : Answer Summary
To buy a car in Thailand, you will need several key documents including a passport, a certificate of residency, and the vehicle's green book. If purchasing a used car, it's necessary to visit the Department of Land Transport (DLT) to transfer ownership. It's worth noting that buying a new vehicle can sometimes offer better deals during promotional motor shows. While buying a new car typically involves less hassle with paperwork, used cars can require additional documentation, especially for older models. It's advisable to have a local friend who speaks Thai accompany you during the car buying process to ease communication and negotiations.

1st Everthing is expensive! 2nd most of the good second hands are repossession!! 3rd
If you are not Thai ! Find a Thai male good friend who knows a about cars because you will get screwed! He will get a Far better price than you!

Unless made here in Thai. Then no import tax. Prices are okay and even a bit lower than US or UK. Used prices are even better... given these economic times and repo rates.

Find a car you want. Pay. Then get weeks of harrassment and stress from LTO and immigration over transferring your name to the BLUE book. Dont forget insurance. Mr prakan very helpful.
Paul *******
Easy. Passport, certificate of residency from immigration or your embassy, blue book. Depends if you're buying new or used. Procedure will involve a trip to the land transport department to change the title if buying used.

I would just use a scooter and hire a taxi when you need it.
Strangely enough we just ordered one, has to go through my mrs though, we spotted a really good deal, Nissan pick up, like everyone here drives, 10k deposit and only 8k a month
I've got the paperwork somewhere I been trying to find it but the Mrs is at the temple for songkran, but I think it is the navara I just googled it and looks like the one she showed me
We literally did it a couple of days ago, only went 7-11 for a toastie ended up with a new car π
I don't actually know my wife sorted it all out, it's a black one π

Buyout second hand and you'll pay between 5 and 7 % on the WHOLE AMOUNT ! expensive but easy just need a guarantor ! Buy new good deals out there now ! We paid 10 kk% down 13 k a month for 7 years ! Still need a guarantor and a check on your earnings ! If you don't want the car just stop paying they'll pick if up quickly and all you'll lose will be credit rating ! Honda Toyota and mazda best buys ! More expensive but cheaper in the long run ! Buy now and in 10 years you'll get your money back less the interest maybe !

Put it in wife's name, no money down, 0% interest for 48 months easy peasy.
My car was 18 years old & told transfer must have residence blue book from 2004. Took 3 hours and lots of thai insistence and proof on our part to transfer. Who has blue book residence copy of where they lived 18 years ago? So.. update address on blue book at annual tax time.
