I'm assuming you have waited until your extension of stay or visa is only a couple of weeks away from expiry?? People will say why didn't you plan ahead?? As far as I'm aware, if your current visa or extension of stay has expired, when the new passport arrives, you will then need to go to immigration to pay the overstay fine of ฿500 a day, and then renew your visa or extension of stay, If my comment is incorrect, hopefully someone will correct me.
I was just wondering, has anyone said if you do a border bounce, just before the expiry date, you can get 8 or 9 months out of an METV, useful to know, if you needed any extra time on that visa.
You just stamp out as usual, at the land border I got asked for a TM6 arrival card, I didn't have one, so the immigration officer just asked me to step aside and fill one out, when you return, just make sure you remember give the printed copy of your METV to the immigration officer, when stamping back into Thailand.
My understanding of the health care system that Thai people receive from the government hospitals, (they pay a ฿30 contribution in there home Provence) I wouldn't have thought they would do a knee replacement, under that government treatment plan, if they did, I would have thought it would only be a case of if that person was going to actually loose the knee, you say she has had injections?? In my home country, people regularly have cortisone injections, is it something you have already tried?? I don't know if it's relevant to your wife's situation.
Stephen walker I live in Thailand, and i use them for medical insurance, they also sort my car and motorcycle insurance policies, I've just renewed with them again recently, send them an email to make enquiries first, if it sounds good, go to their office in Pattaya, and discuss your opinions, they will sort everything out for you. The first time I went to see them, I purchased a good 12 month accident insurance policy, I think it was ฿6500, I think you can buy a separate critical illness cover for a similar price, but I'm sure you're aware it very much depends on age and circumstances, my opinion is you should cover yourself for accident and critical illness at least if you can, they are the two things that would cost you a lot of money.
Have you thought about just buying an accident and critical illness cover policy?? Most other things you could just self insure, where are you staying in Thailand?? I know a good insurance broker in Pattaya I use them myself, and lots of expats use them, it's a British fella that owns it, his Thai staff speak English, you could contact them for a quote, let me know if you want the details.
