TLDR : Answer Summary
In Thailand, the timing for applying for a 30-day extension of a 60-day tourist visa varies by immigration office. At the Jomtien immigration office, it is advised to apply during the last 7 days of your visa validity. Meanwhile, other locations, like Chiang Mai, may allow extensions earlier, even more than a month before expiration. In Bangkok, it is generally recommended to apply around 15 days prior, as some offices may not accept applications in the final week. Therefore, the rules can differ based on the province and specific immigration office.

Depends on what province

We were able to get our 30 day extension over a month before our 60 days were up at the immigration office at Central Festival mall in Chiang Mai.

@Andrea *******
got my 30 days one month before recently with agent from Pattaya

that's what agents get paid for

This question is about Jomtien, not Chiang Mai.

Trat ko chang did mine 50 days early, in and out in ten minutes no photos or forms needed just give lodging address and sign.. best immigration office in Thailand.

In Bangkok you should do it around 15 days before your stamp expires, they don’t allow it in the final week. So different from office to office.

@Rolf ********
Bangkok allows tourist extension up until the last day on your stamp and up to 45 days before then.

@Brandon ***********
not what they told me, they said not to do it in the final week
Brandon ************
@Rolf ********
Don't know who told you what but every immigration office in Thailand processes tourist extensions up until the last day, and even past the last day when you are in overstay
Rolf *********
@Brandon ***********
it was the officer at Chaeng whattana
Nongnuch ********
@Rolf ********
the Chaeng Wattana office doesn't issue extensions. Only Laksi IT Square 3rd floor counter K issues touristic extensions. So an officer with a desk at Chaeng Wattana might not be fully aware what his colleagues at Laksi Square are doing
Rolf *********
@Nongnuch *******
I know that but I was told by an officer at chaeng watthana when she also informed me that I had to go to it-square Laksi to do extension
Nongnuch ********
@Rolf ********
they don't communicate a lot between each other, so you can expect different information on the same subject from different officials
Rolf *********
@Nongnuch *******
yes I know that too, and the answer you get many times is dependant on the officers mood for the day
Brandon ************
@Rolf ********
It's never a good idea to wait until the last minute to apply for an extension. But there's no rule about not being able to apply.

@Brandon ***********
I never wait to last minute with anything. But good to know there’s no rule against it
Mark ***********
It depends on where you apply. I’ve heard that many are 15 days before
Andy **********
I've heard stories of them sometimes sending people away, even in the final week, and telling them to return on the final day of their stamp.
Brandon ************
That's correct for Jomtien. They only accept tourist extensions during the final week of the permission to stay.
