TLDR : Answer Summary
Opening a bank account in Bangkok or Pattaya can be a complex process, especially for expats. Many users recommend using an agent to navigate the requirements, particularly for those under 50 years old or those on tourist visas. The costs for using an agent can range from 4,000 to 8,500 baht, depending on the service. Specific banks are mentioned, with recommendations for agencies like Key Visa and MOTS Services. It's essential to have a residence letter from Immigration if you're on a long-term visa, which can simplify the process.

Even with an agent it isn’t as easy as it was. Some cannot get you an account unless you are over 50 and some require you to buy Bangkok bank insurance if you are under 50

Without agent not possible anymore. 4000baht

Some Pattaya agents can still assist with opening a bank account, but I believe it's more difficult if you are under 50 years old, I've heard a few saying it cannot be done, while others say it's more expensive, or you need to buy insurance if you are under 50 years old.

If you're on a tourist visa or in visa exempt status, you'll likely need to pay an agent to help you. I opened my first account via an attorney while I was here on vacation. I opened the second account myself after I had a local address.
If, however, you are already here on a long term visa, you can do it yourself. Go to Immigration to get a Letter of Residence - they are used for three main purposes: 1) Opening a bank account, 2) Getting a driver's license, and 3) Purchasing a vehicle. Take that letter to the bank of your choice to open an account.
i got my residency from my hotel and paid chump change at immigration. Might be different now but I think you got ripped off somewhere. And actually I got 2 certificates at ommigration. 1 for my drivers licence

Who are you paying for a residency certificate?

I live in Pattaya but I open my bank in Bangkok so they charge me everytime a fee for put the money in the bank
I was told that you can avoid the fee if you withdraw using the bank app (Bangkok Bank) on your phone while in Pattaya. I have never tried it as I stay only within Bangkok.

In Bangkok and Pattaya, you can walk in, but it depends on the staff you meet. Here in Phuket, you need to have an agency.

I have a bank account in K Bank since 1997. Since I haven’t been since 2019 and my card has since expired would they agree to renew my account even if I am no longer resident?
If there is money on your account, the bank has not cancelled the account. But you must visit your branch in order to get a new debit card. It takes 10 minutes and cost about 200 baths.
Probably not, same happened to me with only one savings account in the same bank as my debit konto still was active. They demanded a long stay visa for reopening this konto again.
