Ok as someone who stupidly over stayed their visa by 6 months twenty years I'm in a certain position to answer this though twenty years ago is alot different than the present the thais are rightly so being much more stricter on entry and abuses of the visa system the days of border runs as long gone.i won't go into why I ended up overstating it's a long story but anyway I managed to sort money out got a plane flight home went to the immigration and paid the

baht fine they told me at immigration that because I'd paid the fine and got a ticket out o wouldn't have problem coming back and that was true as I came back in 2009 2010 and 2015 no problem I now have a new passport and have since been back 2023 2024 and am here at present for 3 months no problem. Now in your case did you go to the airport with ticket out and pay the fine because that makes a big difference in that case I'd go to the thai embassy and get a visa and check if you are ok to go though that's not 100% guaranteed they might still refuse entry at immigrations definitely don't try to turn up hoping to get a visa on arrival that's not going to happen.now if you were pick up by the police and had overstayed you would be taken to the immigration centre and stay there until you got money for a ticket out pay the fine and would be deported and probably banned for 10 years.if you do manage to get back to Thailand expect for at least the next 10 years extra scrutiny of plans outward ticket and funds and for goodness sake don't even overstay by one day.well if you do get back into the country enjoy but break a single law even a traffic law.i have to admit your chances for the next 10 years are 50 50 Thailand is not playing about anymore.and you will have some explaining about how you survived and what you were doing in that one year of overstay
