US is exempt, as is UK if it’s already been taxed in UK just an issue with tax years being different , uk is Apr-Apr but no train smash - people can leave for other countries in SE Asia, but only a matter of time before net closes, as those countries seek membership of OECD as Thailand has , and a requirement is regularising tax collection…..

yip if it’s remitted to Thailand it’s taxable, but as tax paid in UK I get a credit so it’s a wash……just have to wait a couple of months due to different tax year (Uk is Apr-Apr)

does not apply to all, my remittances for UK pension are taxable but refundable later due to DTA, tax years are diff hence the need to refund.

business travelers (of which I was one for many years across all continents) and tourists have a distinctly different profile, I rarely spent more than a week in a country on business, so never got challenged on frequent visits, some countries I was in and out of 5-6 times a year, Kenya, Mauritius, Ethiopia, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia to name but a few. However as we all know many visitors to Thailand are gaming the system using exemptions, tourist visas, border runs etc etc to live here most of the year…..they have brought these entry denials crashing down on everyone incl many who are not long term gamers of the system……..ETA will clear this mess up and un muddy the waters, hopefully……….

Any other countries you are aware of that let people circumvent visa rules because they spend lots of money ? It will have serious implications for the Isaan economy though…..:-) the UK, Europe and US are fighting elections on the basis of border control and its breeding a generation of nationalism I never expected to see in my life time - why should we have an issue with Thailand tightening controls just because we live here in our case legally, my Singaporean wife regularly flies home to help with family, never has an issue at immig. Singapore has very relaxed visa rules, don’t see everyone flocking there , or Malaysia for that matter……

they just want compliance with the rules ETA will stop all the visa dodgers and clear the swamp

they will soon face the same issues, at least they will tell you when you try to book that risk of entry denial is high, always best to find out before you leave the country…..reality is the border run is slowly becoming a thing of the past , the ETA will kill it once and for all.

Never wise to plan a deliberate overstay,get a 30 day extension from immig, try to avoid Monday’s when they tend to be busier…….

Don’t hand passport to a third party is safest option, immigration have controls in place and you get a receipt when you leave it for visa renewal. It’s just overnight anyway.
