BOI is completely separate from Thai immigration. If you qualify for LTR as wealthy retiree, use the BOI site. If applying for OA in your home country, use Royal Thai embassy site in your country

And yes, they obviously did make the system this way. They are well aware of the ways that people use it. It’s not remotely close to abuse, it’s just a few archaic expats here who love to chirp about it as if their perspective is in any way relevant

there are no ‘crackdowns’.

And you do realize that if they want to limit entries, they simply go back to having a maximum number of entries per year. Or a cap on number of days. But they don’t. This should provide a hint
