you wouldn’t get hassled b/c you are no abusing Tourist Exemtion stamps. If you haven’t purchased flight tickets a land border bounce is best (10 hours door to door). If flying one day in Laos.

no, because you said you are coming off a work permit, so its common to do this to look for another job or indeed, tidy up loose ends.

Don’t get the Tourist visa from the Thai Embassy, you don’t need it. Because you’ve been working you wont have a problem entering now on the Visa Exemption- either fly in/out or do a border bounce as suggested above.
