Will I have problems at immigration when returning to Thailand after 3 months outside the country?

Hello.

I was in Thailand from November 1, 2024 - June 1st, 2025? 7 months. I have been outside of Thailand for 3 months. Is it likely that I will have a problem at immigration when returning via Bangkok airport? Have I already spent too much time in Thailand?

Thank you 🙏🏽

TLDR : Answer Summary
The person inquiring about their return to Thailand is concerned about potential immigration issues due to their previous 7-month stay and 3-month absence. Comments from the community suggest strategies for enhancing chances of re-entry, such as entering by land instead of air and obtaining the correct type of visa—like a Tourist Visa or Non-O Visa—to avoid complications, as immigration policies may be strict.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
  • Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
  • For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
  • Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.

I was here 6 months , came back after 4..questioned for 30 minutes, had proof of travel on to laos.

Eventually let me in , 60 day visa exempt. extended 30 days and went laos via nong Khai.

Went with a plan to get 90 day non o which I got.

When I left nong Khai the immigration officer very sternly said; enjoy laos, do not come back without the correct visa...I was quite surprised tbh but when I did come back, with the retirement 90 day non o I saw a few people refused entry back in to Thailand, things are hotting up . Will be leaving soon and come back in 6 months with another non o I hope,I have got the bank account and phone in place now at least

You should be fine, but if you worry, enter by land, indeed, in case of rejection you can just try the next border point, no big cost.

Procure a Tourist Visa OR use a Safe Entry agent to help you get back in. Without this it is highly likely, in this climate, you will have issues.

Arriving on a tourist visa won't help a bit at immigration. When arriving on a 60 days visa exempt, you're also a tourist. Same thing.

Max Fredriksson false, it helps. Because they’ve gone thru the correct channels and paid for a Visa. In this case he has 2 options; purchase a TR visa or use Safe Entry.

You obviously don't know how it works. Immigration is a part of The Royal Thai Police, while Embassies and consulates are part of The Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Immigration doesn't give a shit about a visa of any kind, and has the right to deny entry. This is a fact and nothing to argue about.

all logic would say that, but that's exactly what the IO who held me for further questioning told me to do. The next time that I returned from SGN into BKK with a copy of the paid Tourist Visa from the Ho Chi Minh embassy gave me smooth entry without issue. Thai logic can be the ultimate oxymoron.

Maybe you misunderstood him when he said visa. He might have meant apply for the correct type of visa meaning a long stay.

The fact you are asking means you were probably using Visa Exempt previously and are planning the same so expecting to have issues.

No one knows, but I can tell you one thing for sure, It’s easier to try to enter by land and worse case scenario you get to walk back to Laos/Malaysia, instead of flying back home on your expense and having your passport taken from you until you enter the plane
