TLDR : Answer Summary
The process to renew a Non-O retirement visa in Thailand can be confusing due to conflicting information. To extend the visa for another year, an applicant needs to demonstrate a minimum of 800,000 THB in a Thai bank account for at least two months prior to applying or provide proof of 12 consecutive months of transfers of at least 65,000 THB from abroad. Health insurance is typically not required for a Non-O visa but may be needed for other visa types. Various community members emphasize organizing all necessary documents to facilitate a smooth renewal process, arguing that using an agent is not necessarily required unless there are complications.

thb per month. I am applying for a non o visa through the Thai embassy in London. They have emailed me asking for bank statements covering monthly income of

thb. Has there been an increase lately?.

there is no change to the Thai immigration rules about the monthly income. But different embassies may have different rules. Perhaps they have a little cushion built in in case exchange rates change.

You might be overthinking the whole thing. I did it yesterday at CW. Didn't need an agent. Just get your documents in order and it takes 40 mins and 1900 baht. So easy!

If you used an agent because you didn't have the 800,000, you can't switch agents easily because they are responsible for the initial transaction. If you want to start over, you have to leave the country and come back because immigration will want to see that the 800,000 was in the bank long enough for your first year.

Why ask the same people you are complaining about instead of looking it up on the official Thai Visa webpage?

@Bradford *****
Please advise of the official Thai Visa webpage.

You’ll find it hard to do because there isn’t one. There may be one specific to one immigration office or others pretending to be one.

But if you know of the official one please let us all know.

There are default requirements on immigrations website,but local requirements do exist.

first lets talk banking.

-Did you have foreign deposited 800k baht in a bank 2 months before applying for your first 12 month extension. Or did and agent arrange the money in the bank for you?

-Did you keep the 800k baht in the bank for the 3 months after the extension was granted. And no less then 400k for months 4 through month 10 and bring back up to 800k for months 11 and 12?

-can you show a minimum of 65k baht foreign deposits in a Thai bank each and every of the 12 months. (I did this in a separate bank account to keep things clean and organized for Thai immigration)

If you ate planning to renew on the basis of 65k baht per month deposits you will need a letter from the bank certifying that the 12 deposits came from your home country. And also 12 month statement certified by the bank the day you are going to immigration to apply for the renewal.

Note: I maintained both bank method in case the 65k method did not work for some reason.

If you are extending a non-o then you do not need proof of insurance. Only the non-oa and non-ox require insurance.

- do you have a lease, proof of permanent residence.

- done the required TM-30’s and TM-47’s

If all of this is true then I would recommend you do it yourself. It is not that complicated and I found the immigration officers to be helpful.

The on thing I forgot was they want a hand drawn map of directions to your home. So I had to do it on the fly when at immigration

Hope this is helpful

I’ve deleted the photos of your passport stamps because they contain your actual passport number.

They want to see 800,000 in the bank and will say to show monthly income is a lot of paperwork and they don't like. And remember...copies, copies copies!
Graham ******
@Dwain ******
It's 800k seasoned OR 65k monthly "income" transfers

my experience with 4 retirement visas and many others. Ramble on baby!

Ok so you’re on an extension of stay based upon an original Non O visa. That’s good.

To extend that for a further 12 months you can either show 800k in a Thai bank for two months prior to applying for the extension or show 12 months of at least 65k baht international transfers each month.

Not a difficult task. Ask your local immigration office for the handout of what you’d need.

As you have the funds you really don’t need an agent. DIY cost is 1,900 baht and a few forms, bank letters and statements and photocopies etc.

thankyou i have gathered the relevant bank statements but fall a little short of 800 k for 12 months i think its about
*****
0 however i also have savings that i can make up the difference do you think this would sevice ?
Stuart *********
@Matt *********
You need 800k in the bank for 2 months prior to application. The fact you already had an extension means you need to have followed the rules for that one which would have been to keep the 800k for 3 months after your extension and not go below 400k for the remainder of the year - and then back up to 800k two months prior to application.

Ok hopefully that will clear it up thanks all

Yes its lame we have to ask other foreigners to find out information and decipher what options are available. It’s always a mystrey. Very strange place at times.
Lynnette *******
@Mma ******
the mystery is why people who speak English are unable to figure out what "arrival" means. They ask do they have to fill in an arrival card if arriving in thailand. Or those who want to extend their stay and say they want to renew a visa.
Max *************
@Mma ******
If you ask for help you need to use correct terminology and come up with other important info. Otherwise it's totally impossible to give the correct information. How hard is this to understand? Stop whining.

You don't say what passport you hold so you don't make it easy. But for an extension of stay based on a Non-O visa aged over 50 the choices are limited. If your embassy provides an income affidavit you can use that, if it doesn't you have the option of showing 800k baht in a Thai bank or if you can show 12 months of consecutive transfers of 65k baht each month prior to applying for the extension you can use that
Stuart *********
Not a simple task that you’re trying to do. In fact it’s impossible. You can’t renew a visa. You can extend one, or you can buy a new one. Terminology aside I believe you’re trying to get a 12 month extension of stay based upon an original “retirement” visa.

The reason you’ll see conflicting information is that we don’t have enough information from you to be able to help.

You say you have a Non O visa. But is that the original visa you bought from an overseas consulate or embassy (or in country) or do you have a stamp in your passport that says “extension of stay”? This critical information matters.

If someone is saying you need insurance do you indeed have/initially had a Non O (no insurance required) or a Non OA (insurance required). Both are commonly referred to as a “retirement visa”.

If we can clear up some of these questions then we can point you in a better direction for understanding of your options to extend your visa/extension stamp.
