Just done this

You need to apply for a three month visa first and open a bank account. Don’t get persuaded you need 50k worth do medical insurance to open account you don’t.

You need to put 800k in the bank account.

You need to put 400k if you have a marriage cert.

When I took to immigration they sent me to the bank to add another thousand, it needs to be over 800k.

When the three months are nearly up you will return for your years stamp. I got the bank statement the day before my appointment and on the day they sent me to get another statement as apparently the statement has to be on the same day you apply.

I did this with my Thai wife and everything was fine just be prepared for some waiting a allot of signatures.

When you get the year visa you have to check in every three months. I’ve been told this can now be done online but I haven’t looked.

I have been a member on here now for sometime and it’s amazing the conflicting info you can get.

I have also picked up that although all the rules are the same they do seem to be interpreted differently depending what province you are in.

My province is Udon.

I would never have been able to get everything right without a Thai to help unless you are fluent in Thai yourself I believe it’s important to have someone you trust with you.

Alternately an agent but they do cost

I wish you well.

Just gone through it all

If you don’t have a Thai to help you through the process get an agent you will struggle without one.

I wanted accident insurance at such a cheap price for 100,000 hospital cover which I have already had to use. So have the bank account and immigration happy so have I year visa. Bangkok bank in udon central said I had to pay 50,000 for full medical insurance so I said no and went to Bangkok bank in Nong Han, different atmosphere altogether, open account easy at same branch Thai wife has account. After 14 years of constant nhs use in uk I can say for sure that I feel far safer with the Bangkok hospital in udon city. Very good.

I paid just over 6k for accident insurance at Bangkok bank. No problems at immigration.

Just read this sometimes I wonder if it’s worth it.

Really public forum and a question like that. Wow. But obviously not asked by a criminal mind.
