It has never been easy. It used to take from 12-18 months for a determination. What work does she do? Does she regularly file her Thai income tax? Does she have tangible assets, and work responsibilities in Thailand that she has to return to? Has she ever had a passport before and traveled out of Thailand? Has she ever worked in a bar/gogo? There pretty much has to be a good reason she will return to Thailand after the vacation.
buying a tourist visa is no guarantee you will be let into Thailand by immigration. With two visa exempts entries already it is obvious to immigration you are trying to stay long term in Thailand on tourist entries, and they can refuse you entry until you get the correct visa, and that does not include buying a tourist visa. Be fully aware of that, and it's why smart people use a border bounce agency to do it.
it is all online now, but each Thai embassy in that country processes the applications for their region. They aren't all centrally processes at one location for the whole world. You might not be aware of that detail, as many aren't.
buying a visa is no guarantee you will be let in if you've been trying to live here long term as a tourist. Even if you bought a tourist visa they can still refuse you entry.
It is very simple at this point, but could change in the future. If you have filed income tax in the country you're suppose to, and can prove it, then Thailand doesn't really care at this point.
