The OP can apply for a further 60 days extention of stay due to having a Thai wife giving him a possible 150 days stay.

Fly to Udon Thani and coss the border at Nong Kai. Far less strict than entering at DMK or BKK.

You're far more likely to encounter problems flying in if you have a history of consistent entries than you would be crossing a land border. The only problematic land border seems to be Poipet, the rest are are far less strict than airport entries.

Nothing to do with a "strong passport". Technically it's still a legal requirement to travel and to enter Thailand whether asked or not, so yes you did get lucky!

Incorrect. You just got lucky. The visa doesn't prohibit you from needing onward travel when boarding your flight or entering Thailand

Good luck with that. If airlines ask you'll need proof of onward travel within 180 days, the same if Thai Immigration ask.
